Asylum Seekers of the Syrian Conflict: procedures and patterns of settlement in Germany
This paper reports the procedures of asylum and patterns of settlement of asylum seekers in Germany, with special focus on the asylum seekers of the Syrian conflict. Initially prepared for a workshop comparing policy responses and settlement outcomes of the Syrian conflict in several countries, this paper presents the German case addressing the development of refugee intake, asylum application duration and results and access to family unification between the years 2015 and 2017. Based on findings of the project “Addressing the Diversity of Asylum Seekers’ Needs and Aspirations”, the paper highlights the response of German authorities and civil society to the refugee intake on arrival, and exemplifies the diversity of local actors that engage actively in supporting refugee accommodation and integration measures. Additionally, it addresses the different post arrival programs and policies for accommodation and integration and the differential access of asylum seekers to different rights, offers and services. Finally, the paper summarizes the state of research into refugee intake in Germany focusing on Syrian conflict refugees

This chapter explores an alternative proposal for the linguistic impact of Wari expansion: that it could in fact have been two-fold, dispersing both Quechua and Aymara simultaneously. To this end, it invokes the distinctive Andean institutions of ‘complementary asymmetric dualism’, to explore whether they might not have linguistic correlates too. Specifically, it looks to the wari–llaqwash dyadism between mid-altitude, maize-cultivating wari, hypothesized as speaking Quechua, and higher-altitude, camelid-herding llaqwash speaking Aymara.Anthropolog
Peningkatan Hasil Belajar Dalam Pembelajaran IPA Tentang Gaya Dan Gerak Melalui Strategi Pembelajaran Toys Dan Trick Pada Siswa Kelas V SD Negeri Mojosari Tahun Pelajaran 2011/2012
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar dalam pembelajaran IPA tentang gaya dan gerak melalui strategi pembelajaran toys dan trick pada siswa kelas V SD Negeri Mojosari tahun pelajaran 2011/2012 yang berjumlah 15 siswa..Subyek penelitian ini adalah guru dan siswa kelas V SD tersebut. Penelitian ini diawali dengan kegiatan perencanaan, tindakan, pengamatan dan refleksi. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara, dokumentasi, observasi, dan tes. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan
dilakukan dengan cara reduksi, penyajian kemudian dilanjutkan dengan mengambil kesimpulan lalu verifikasi.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dengan menerapkan trategi
pembelajaran toys dan trick dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa pada siswa
kelas V SD Negeri Mojosari tahun pelajaran 2011/2012. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari
hasil pelaksanaan pembelajaran sebelum tindakan sebesar 60% dan setelah
dilakukan tindakan sebesar 86,66% pada siklus I, dan diakhir tindakan sebesar
93,33% pada siklus II.
Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah Strategi pembelajaran toys dan trick pada
pembelajaran IPA materi gaya dan gerak dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa
siswa kelas V SD Negeri Mojosari tahun pelajaran 2011/201
Penerapan Pembelajaran Kooperatif Tipe Numbered Heads Together (Nht) Pada Materi Gerak Parabola Dan Gerak Melingkar Melalui Kegiatan Lesson Study
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan aktivitas belajar fisika materi gerak parabola dan gerak melingkar siswa kelas XI IPA1SMA Negeri 5 Metro Tahun Pelajaran 2014/2015 dengan penerapan pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Numbered Heads Together (NHT) melalui kegiatan Lesson Study. Metode penelitian yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus. Setiap siklus diawali dengan tahap plan kemudian dilanjutkan do dan see/refleksi. Subyek penelitian adalah siswa kelas XI IPA1SMA Negeri 5 Metro Tahun Pelajaran 2014/2015. Data diperoleh melalui observasi menggunakan lembar observasi aktivitas belajar dan dianalisis secara deskriptif kualitatif. Berdasarkan hasil penelitan dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan pembelajaran kooperatif tipe NHT dapat meningkatkan aktivitas belajar siswa XI IPA1 SMA Negeri 5 Metro Tahun Pelajaran 2014/2015 . Hal ini terlihat dari hasil siklus I dan siklus II terjadi peningkatan aktivitas belajar pada tiap indikator aktivitas belajar yang ditentukan. The Chanka: Archaeological Research in Andahuaylas (Apurimac), Peru
In AD 1438 a battle took place outside the city of Cuzco that changed the course of South American history. The Chanka, a powerful ethnic group from the Andahuaylas region, had begun an aggressive program of expansion. Conquering a host of smaller polities, their army had advanced well inside the territory of their traditional rival, the Inca. In a series of unusual maneuvers, the Inca defeated the invading Chanka forces and became the most powerful people in the Andes. Many scholars believe that the defeat of the Chanka represents a defining moment in the history of South America as the Inca then continued to expand and establish the largest empire of the Americas. Despite its critical position in South American history, until recently the Chanka heartland remained unexplored and the cultural processes that led to their rapid development and subsequent defeat by the Inca had not been investigated. From 2001 to 2004, Brian Bauer conducted an archaeological survey of the Andahuaylas region. This project represents an unparalleled opportunity to examine theoretical issues concerning the history and cultural development of late-prehistoric societies in this area of the Andes. The resulting book includes an archaeological analysis on the development of the Chanka and examines their ultimate defeat by the Inca. Series: Monographs 6
Soldiers or Bureaucrats?Conflict and the Military’s Role in Policy-Making
One of the most striking institutional features of many less developed countries is that their militaries are closely involved in policy-making, potentially having a large impact on economic outcomes. This paper examines the role of the military in setting policy. For this purpose it develops one of the first models of the military, where its political involvement can take two forms: direct when the military runs the government, and indirect when it influences policy without governing directly. We focus on civilian regimes and find that war decreases the payoff to the military from both forms of involvement, but also makes staging successful coups easier. In equilibrium, an increase in the likelihood of war makes indirect involvement less likely; its impact on coups, which are aimed at establishing direct control, is non-monotonic. We show empirical evidence for this non-monotonic relationship, withcoups being least likely for low and high probabilities of war.institutions, conflict, political economy, military, war, coups
