Visual inspection
This semester thesis deals with the issue of visual inspection. As a gruop of controlled objects we have have chosen needles. In this work basic knowledge on the topic of computer vision is described. In the first part, methods of image processing such as smoothing filters and edge filters are discribed. The selected programming environment is Matlab. This enviroment can easily present and compare the obtained result. Following part presents the examples of the used resultant methods on the sample picture.

Visual inspection criteria assure the metallurgical integrity of spot welds joining nickel leads and nickel ribbon in a 90 degree cross-wire configuration
Securing Interactive Sessions Using Mobile Device through Visual Channel and Visual Inspection
Communication channel established from a display to a device's camera is
known as visual channel, and it is helpful in securing key exchange protocol.
In this paper, we study how visual channel can be exploited by a network
terminal and mobile device to jointly verify information in an interactive
session, and how such information can be jointly presented in a user-friendly
manner, taking into account that the mobile device can only capture and display
a small region, and the user may only want to authenticate selective
regions-of-interests. Motivated by applications in Kiosk computing and
multi-factor authentication, we consider three security models: (1) the mobile
device is trusted, (2) at most one of the terminal or the mobile device is
dishonest, and (3) both the terminal and device are dishonest but they do not
collude or communicate. We give two protocols and investigate them under the
abovementioned models. We point out a form of replay attack that renders some
other straightforward implementations cumbersome to use. To enhance
user-friendliness, we propose a solution using visual cues embedded into the 2D
barcodes and incorporate the framework of "augmented reality" for easy
verifications through visual inspection. We give a proof-of-concept
implementation to show that our scheme is feasible in practice.Comment: 16 pages, 10 figure
Feed-through has polyterminal feature
Feed-through connector with individual solder pots in the polyterminal side provides good connections with small amounts of solder and permits visual inspection of bonds. Polyterminal also provides a friction mechanical bond to position conductors prior to soldering
A systematic algorithm development for image processing feature extraction in automatic visual inspection : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Technology in the Department of Production Technology, Massey University
Image processing techniques applied to modern quality control are described together with the development of feature extraction algorithms for automatic visual inspection. A real-time image processing hardware system already available in the Department of Production Technology is described and has been tested systematically for establishing an optimal threshold function. This systematic testing has been concerned with edge strength and system noise information. With the a priori information of system signal and noise, non-linear threshold functions have been established for real time edge detection. The performance of adaptive thresholding is described and the usefulness of this nonlinear approach is demonstrated from results using machined test samples. Examination and comparisons of thresholding techniques applied to several edge detection operators are presented. It is concluded that, the Roberts' operator with a non-linear thresholding function has the advantages of being simple, fast, accurate and cost effective in automatic visual inspection
A Systematic Search for High Surface Brightness Giant Arcs in a Sloan Digital Sky Survey Cluster Sample
We present the results of a search for gravitationally-lensed giant arcs
conducted on a sample of 825 SDSS galaxy clusters. Both a visual inspection of
the images and an automated search were performed and no arcs were found. This
result is used to set an upper limit on the arc probability per cluster. We
present selection functions for our survey, in the form of arc detection
efficiency curves plotted as functions of arc parameters, both for the visual
inspection and the automated search. The selection function is such that we are
sensitive only to long, high surface brightness arcs with g-band surface
brightness mu_g 10. Our upper limits on
the arc probability are compatible with previous arc searches. Lastly, we
report on a serendipitous discovery of a giant arc in the SDSS data, known
inside the SDSS Collaboration as Hall's arc.Comment: 34 pages,8 Fig. Accepted ApJ:Jan-200
