Co-Channel Interference Cancellation in OFDM Networks using Coordinated Symbol Repetition and Soft Decision MLE CCI Canceler
In this paper, a new scheme of downlink co-channel interference (CCI)
cancellation in OFDM cellular networks is introduced for users at the
cell-edge. Coordinated symbol transmission between base stations (BS) is
operated where the same symbol is transmitted from different BS on different
sub-carriers. At the mobile station (MS) receiver, we introduce a soft decision
maximum likelihood CCI canceler and a modified maximum ratio combining (M-MRC)
to obtain an estimate of the transmitted symbols. Weights used in the combining
method are derived from the channels coefficients between the cooperated BS and
the MS. Simulations show that the proposed scheme works well under
frequency-selective channels and frequency non-selective channels. A gain of 9
dB and 6 dB in SIR is obtained under multipath fading and flat-fading channels,
respectively.Comment: 4 pages, 8 figures, IEEE International Conference on Signal

Decision Fusion in Space-Time Spreading aided Distributed MIMO WSNs
In this letter, we propose space-time spreading (STS) of local sensor
decisions before reporting them over a wireless multiple access channel (MAC),
in order to achieve flexible balance between diversity and multiplexing gain as
well as eliminate any chance of intrinsic interference inherent in MAC
scenarios. Spreading of the sensor decisions using dispersion vectors exploits
the benefits of multi-slot decision to improve low-complexity diversity gain
and opportunistic throughput. On the other hand, at the receive side of the
reporting channel, we formulate and compare optimum and sub-optimum fusion
rules for arriving at a reliable conclusion.Simulation results demonstrate gain
in performance with STS aided transmission from a minimum of 3 times to a
maximum of 6 times over performance without STS.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
Cooperative subcarrier sensing using antenna diversity based weighted virtual sub clustering
The idea of cooperation and the clustering amongst cognitive radios (CRs) has recently been focus of attention of research community, owing to its potential to improve performance of spectrum sensing (SS) schemes. This focus has led to the paradigm of cluster based cooperative spectrum sensing (CBCSS). In perspective of high date rate 4th generation wireless systems, which are characterized by orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and spatial diversity, there is a need to devise effective SS strategies. A novel CBCSS scheme is proposed for OFDM subcarrier detection in order to enable the non-contiguous OFDM (NC-OFDM) at the physical layer of CRs for efficient utilization of spectrum holes. Proposed scheme is based on the energy detection in MIMO CR network, using equal gain combiner as diversity combining technique, hard combining (AND, OR and Majority) rule as data fusion technique and antenna diversity based weighted clustering as virtual sub clustering algorithm. Results of proposed CBCSS are compared with conventional CBCSS scheme for AND, OR and Majority data fusion rules. Moreover the effects of antenna diversity, cooperation and cooperating clusters are also discussed
Cooperative Symbol-Based Signaling for Networks with Multiple Relays
Wireless channels suffer from severe inherent impairments and hence
reliable and high data rate wireless transmission is particularly challenging to
achieve. Fortunately, using multiple antennae improves performance in wireless
transmission by providing space diversity, spatial multiplexing, and power gains.
However, in wireless ad-hoc networks multiple antennae may not be acceptable
due to limitations in size, cost, and hardware complexity. As a result, cooperative
relaying strategies have attracted considerable attention because of their abilities
to take advantage of multi-antenna by using multiple single-antenna relays.
This study is to explore cooperative signaling for different relay networks,
such as multi-hop relay networks formed by multiple single-antenna relays and
multi-stage relay networks formed by multiple relaying stages with each stage
holding several single-antenna relays. The main contribution of this study is the
development of a new relaying scheme for networks using symbol-level
modulation, such as binary phase shift keying (BPSK) and quadrature phase shift
keying (QPSK). We also analyze effects of this newly developed scheme when it
is used with space-time coding in a multi-stage relay network. Simulation results
demonstrate that the new scheme outperforms previously proposed schemes:
amplify-and-forward (AF) scheme and decode-and-forward (DF) scheme
Detect-and-forward relaying aided cooperative spatial modulation for wireless networks
A novel detect-and-forward (DeF) relaying aided cooperative SM scheme is proposed, which is capable of striking a flexible tradeoff in terms of the achievable bit error ratio (BER), complexity and unequal error protection (UEP). More specifically, SM is invoked at the source node (SN) and the information bit stream is divided into two different sets: the antenna index-bits (AI-bits) as well as the amplitude and phase modulation-bits (APM-bits). By exploiting the different importance of the AI-bits and the APM-bits in SM detection, we propose three low-complexity, yet powerful relay protocols, namely the partial, the hybrid and the hierarchical modulation (HM) based DeF relaying schemes. These schemes determine the most appropriate number of bits to be re-modulated by carefully considering their potential benefits and then assigning a specific modulation scheme for relaying the message. As a further benefit, the employment of multiple radio frequency (RF) chains and the requirement of tight inter-relay synchronization (IRS) can be avoided. Moreover, by exploiting the benefits of our low-complexity relaying protocols and our inter-element interference (IEI) model, a low-complexity maximum-likelihood (ML) detector is proposed for jointly detecting the signal received both via the source-destination (SD) and relay-destination (RD) links. Additionally, an upper bound of the BER is derived for our DeF-SM scheme. Our numerical results show that the bound is asymptotically tight in the high-SNR region and the proposed schemes provide beneficial system performance improvements compared to the conventional MIMO schemes in an identical cooperative scenario.<br/
A universal space-time architecture for multiple-antenna aided systems
In this tutorial, we first review the family of conventional multiple-antenna techniques, and then we provide a general overview of the recent concept of the powerful Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) family based on a universal Space-Time Shift Keying (STSK) philosophy. When appropriately configured, the proposed STSK scheme has the potential of outperforming conventional MIMO arrangements
