    This report is part of the Discovery Workpackage (WP4) and is the third report out of four deliverables. The objective of this report is to give an overview of the latest technical developments in the world of digital repositories, digital libraries and beyond, in order to serve as theoretical and practical input for the technical DRIVER developments, especially those focused on enhanced publications. This report consists of two main parts, one part focuses on interoperability standards for enhanced publications, the other part consists of three subchapters, which give a landscape picture of current and surfacing technologies and communities crucial to DRIVER. These three subchapters contain the GRID, CRIS and LTP communities and technologies. Every chapter contains a theoretical explanation, followed by case studies and the outcomes and opportunities for DRIVER in this field

    A Tool for Development of OVAL Definitions within OpenSCAP Project

    Tato práce se zabývá standardem SCAP používaným v oblasti počítačové bezpečnosti a popisuje jeho svobodnou implementaci OpenSCAP. V textu je analyzován jazyk OVAL sloužící pro popis zraniteností a bezpečné konfigurace systémů. Důraz je kladen na typické problémy tohoto jazyka. Na základě získaných poznatků je navrženo rozšíření projektu OpenSCAP o možnost reportování a diagnostiky průběhu interpretace jazyka OVAL. Práce následně popisuje implementaci, integraci a testování tohoto rozšíření.This thesis deals with the SCAP standard, used in area of computer security, and describes its open source implementation OpenSCAP. The analysis focuses on OVAL, a language for determining vulnerabilities and configuration issues on computer systems. Typical problems of OVAL are discussed. Based on obtained findings, an extension of the OpenSCAP project for reporting and diagnostics of OVAL interpretation has been designed. The thesis describes implementation, integration and testing of proposed extension.

    Personalization platform for multimodal ubiquitous computing applications

In general, the user experience on each of those scenarios is not adapted to each user’s specific needs, without personalization and integration across scenarios. Moreover, developers usually do not have the right tools to handle that in a standard and generic way. As such, a personalization platform may provide those tools. This kind of platform should be readily available to be used by any developer. Therefore, it must be developed to be available over the Internet. With the advances in IT infrastructure, it is now possible to develop reliable and scalable services running on abstract and virtualized platforms. Those are some of the advantages of cloud computing, which offers a model of utility computing where customers are able to dynamically allocate the resources they need and are charged accordingly. This work focuses on the creation of a cloud-based personalization platform built on a previously developed generic user modeling framework. It provides user profiling and context-awareness tools to third-party developers. A public display-based application was also developed. It provides useful information to students, teachers and others in a university campus as they are detected by Bluetooth scanning. It uses the personalization platform as the basis to select the most relevant information in each situation, while a mobile application was developed to be used as an input mechanism. A user study was conducted to assess the usefulness of the application and to validate some design choices. The results were mostly positive

    Conceptual Schemas are one of the most important artifacts in the development cycle of information systems. To understand the conceptual schema is essential to get involved in the information system that is described within it. As the information system increases its size and complexity, the relative conceptual schema will grow in the same proportion making di cult to understand the main concepts of that schema/information system. The thesis comprises the investigation of the in uence of the whole schema in computing the relevance of schema elements. It will include research and implementation of algorithms for scoring elements in the literature, an study of the di erent results obtained once applied to a few example conceptual schemas, an extension of those algorithms including new components in the computation process like derivation rules, constraints and the behavioural subschema speci cation, and an in-depth comparison among the initial algorithms and the extended ones studying the results in order to choose those algorithms that give the most valuable output

    Skilling up for CRM: qualifications for CRM professionals in the Fourth Industrial Revolution

    The 4th industrial revolution (4IR) describes a series of innovations in artificial intelligence, ubiquitous internet connectivity, and robotics, along with the subsequent disruption to the means of production. The impact of 4IR on industry reveals a construct called Industry 4.0. Higher education, too, is called to transform to respond to the disruption of 4IR, to meet the needs of industry, and to maximize human flourishing. Education 4.0 describes 4IR’s impact or predicted impact or intended impact on higher education, including prescriptions for HE’s transformation to realize these challenges. Industry 4.0 requires a highly skilled workforce, and a 4IR world raises questions about skills portability, durability, and lifespan. Every vertical within industry will be impacted by 4IR and such impact will manifest in needs for diverse employees possessing distinct competencies. Customer relationship management (CRM) describes the use of information systems to implement a customer-centric strategy and to practice relationship marketing (RM). Salesforce, a market leading CRM vendor, proposes its products alone will generate 9 million new jobs and $1.6 trillion in new revenues for Salesforce customers by 2024. Despite the strong market for CRM skills, a recent paper in a prominent IS journal claims higher education is not preparing students for CRM careers. In order to supply the CRM domain with skilled workers, it is imperative that higher education develop curricula oriented toward the CRM professional. Assessing skills needed for specific industry roles has long been an important task in IS pedagogy, but we did not find a paper in our literature review that explored the Salesforce administrator role. In this paper, we report the background, methodology, and results of a content analysis of Salesforce Administrator job postings retrieved from popular job sites. We further report the results of semi-structured interviews with industry experts, which served to validate, revise, and extend the content analysis framework. Our resulting skills framework serves as a foundation for CRM curriculum development and our resulting analysis incorporates elements of Education 4.0 to provide a roadmap for educating students to be successful with CRM in a 4IR world

    Defining interoperability standards: A case study of public health observatory websites

    The Association of Public Health Observatories (APHO) is a group of region-based health-information providers. Each PHO publishes health-related data for their specific region. Each observatory has taken a national lead in one or more key health area - such as 'cancer' or Obesity'. In 2003, a project was initiated to develop 'interoperability' between public health observatory websites, so the national resources published by one lead observatory could be found on the websites for each other PHO. The APHO interoperability project defined a set of requirements for each PHO - websites should comply with the current government data standards and provide webservices to allow data to be searched in real-time between different PHOs. This thesis describes the production of an interoperable website for the North East Public Health Observatory (NEPHO) and the problems faced during implementation to comply with the APHO interoperability requirements. The areas of interoperability, e-Government and metadata were investigated specifically in suitability for NEPHO and an action list of tasks necessary to achieve the project aims was drawn up. This project has resulted in the successful introduction of a new NEPHO website that complies with the APHO and e-Govemment requirements, however interoperability with other organisations has been difficult to achieve. This thesis describes how other organisations approached the same APHO interoperability criteria and questions whether the national project governance could be improved

    A series of case studies to enhance the social utility of RSS

    RSS (really simple syndication, rich site summary or RDF site summary) is a dialect of XML that provides a method of syndicating on-line content, where postings consist of frequently updated news items, blog entries and multimedia. RSS feeds, produced by organisations or individuals, are often aggregated, and delivered to users for consumption via readers. The semi-structured format of RSS also allows the delivery/exchange of machine-readable content between different platforms and systems. Articles on web pages frequently include icons that represent social media services which facilitate social data. Amongst these, RSS feeds deliver data which is typically presented in the journalistic style of headline, story and snapshot(s). Consequently, applications and academic research have employed RSS on this basis. Therefore, within the context of social media, the question arises: can the social function, i.e. utility, of RSS be enhanced by producing from it data which is actionable and effective? This thesis is based upon the hypothesis that the fluctuations in the keyword frequencies present in RSS can be mined to produce actionable and effective data, to enhance the technology's social utility. To this end, we present a series of laboratory-based case studies which demonstrate two novel and logically consistent RSS-mining paradigms. Our first paradigm allows users to define mining rules to mine data from feeds. The second paradigm employs a semi-automated classification of feeds and correlates this with sentiment. We visualise the outputs produced by the case studies for these paradigms, where they can benefit users in real-world scenarios, varying from statistics and trend analysis to mining financial and sporting data. The contributions of this thesis to web engineering and text mining are the demonstration of the proof of concept of our paradigms, through the integration of an array of open-source, third-party products into a coherent and innovative, alpha-version prototype software implemented in a Java JSP/servlet-based web application architecture
