Additional Siphonaptera Records From Small Mammals in the Central Upper Peninsula of Michigan
Fleas were collected from mammals during the period 1990-1992 in two upper peninsula counties. Identified specimens were compared to existing distribution records for both parasite and host. Only those records which are newly documented for county, upper peninsula or Michigan are listed. We report one previously unknown flea species and five new host records for Michigan. One host record is new for the upper peninsula. In addition, seven new host/parasite combinations are recorded for two central upper peninsula counties
The Thimbleberry Gallmaker, \u3ci\u3eDiastrophus Kincaidii,\u3c/i\u3e (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae), in the Great Lakes Region
Diastrophus kinccddii, a gall wasp previously known only from California and the Pacific Northwest, is reported from the Great Lakes Region. It is present on thimbleberry, Rubus parviflorus, in three counties in the Upper Peninsula of Michi- gan and in Duluth, Minnesota. It may have arrived on the Keweenaw Peninsula of Upper Michigan within the past ten years. Information about its biology, distribu- tion, and abundance is presented

Arcynopteryx compacta, a northern Holarctic species, is confirmed from Lake Superior along the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan\u27s Upper Peninsula. A checklist of stoneflies of Michigan is provided, reporting 58 species plus a list of an additional 19 species that are likely to occur in the state
Recent Siphonaptera Host and Distribution Records from Northern Michigan
Along with colleagues and students I collected fleas from mammals during the period 1998-2007 in five Upper Peninsula counties, and three northern Lower Peninsula counties. Also included here are a few fleas from Grand Traverse County which were mistakenly omitted from earlier publications. Identified specimens were compared to existing distribution records for both parasite and host. Only new documented distributions for the county or the state of Michigan are listed. One parasite record is new for Michigan. In addition, 15 new county host/parasite combinations are recorded from the Upper Peninsula, and 8 new county host/parasite combinations are recorded from the northern Lower Peninsula
Range Extension of \u3ci\u3eStylogomphus Albistylus\u3c/i\u3e (Odonata: Gomphidae) for the Upper Peninsula of Michigan
Larvae, exuviae, and teneral adults of Stylogomphus albistylus (Hagen) were collected from Mountain Stream, within the boundaries of the Huron Mountain Club, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (Marquette County). This represents the first published report of this species from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and only the second recorded site for the state of Michigan

Fleas were collected from birds and mammals over a five year period in four upper peninsula counties. Identified specimens were compared to published records of distribution for the parasite species and its host species, and only those records which are new county distributions for host or parasite are listed. Four new host records for Michigan, four new flea distribution records for the upper peninsula, and 26 new county records are listed
The Late Miocene Southern and Central Taranaki Inversion Phase (SCTIP) and related sequence stratigraphy and paleogeography
We present a new sequence stratigraphic scheme for Taranaki Basin that identifies four 3rd order duration (3 - 4 m.y.) sequences of Middle Miocene to Pleistocene age. These include: (i) the late-Middle Miocene (upper Lillburnian to uppermost Waiauan) Otunui Sequence; (ii) the Late Miocene (lower and lowermost-upper Tongaporutuan) Mt Messenger Sequence; (iii) the latest Miocene (uppermost-upper Tongaporutuan) to Early Pliocene (lower Opoitian) Matemateaonga Sequence, and (iv), the Late Pliocene (upper Opoitian) to Late Pleistocene (Castlecliffian) Rangitikei Sequence, which includes the Giant Foresets Formation offshore in northern Taranaki Basin. Full sequence development can be observed in the parts of these four sequences exposed on land in eastern Taranaki Basin and in Wanganui Basin, including the sequence boundaries and component systems tracts; the character of the various depositional systems and their linkage to correlatives in subsurface parts of Taranaki Basin can be reasonably inferred, although we do not develop the detail here. Our sequence framework, with its independent age control, is integrated with established evidence for the timing of Late Miocene structure development in southern Taranaki (the Southern Inversion Zone of King & Thrasher (1996)) and new evidence presented here for the extent of Late Miocene unconformity development in central Taranaki. This shows that the Mt Messenger Sequence, particularly its regressive systems tract, results from a major phase of tectonism in the plate boundary zone, the crustal shortening then extending into the basin at c. 8.5 Ma and differentially exhuming parts of the sequence and underlying units in southern and central Taranaki Basin. This Southern and Central Taranaki Inversion Phase (SCTIP) peaked at around 7.5 Ma (mid-upper Tongaporutuan). At that time it extended across the whole of the area presently covered by Wanganui Basin, all of southern Taranaki Basin (Southern Inversion Zone), west to the Whitiki and Kahurangi Faults, and across southern parts of Taranaki Peninsula. We have also identified in outcrop sections, wireline logs for Peninsula exploration holes, and selected seismic reflection profiles, the occurrence of forced regressive deposits of the Mt Messenger Sequence. These deposits are mainly preserved beneath distal parts of the unconformity and basinward of it in central Taranaki Peninsula and west to the Tui Field, and need to be distinguished from the much younger Giant Forests Formation within the 3rd-order Rangitikei Sequence, which also shows clinoform development. The new sequence framework with its inferred stratal patterns also helps clarify understanding of the lithostratigraphic nomenclature for Late Miocene – Pliocene units beneath Taranaki Peninsula

Biology and Distribution of \u3ci\u3eTachysphex Aethiops\u3c/i\u3e in Michigan (Hymenoptera: Sphecidae: Larrinae)
Tachysphex aethiops is a primarily western species that also occurs in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Females nest in mossy, sand slopes and utilize pre-existing burrows of other insects. One shallow, five-celled nest contained a single, third-instar nymph of Spharagemon sp., probably bolli, in each cell. Three prey were parasitized by miltogrammine flies
An Annotated List of the Cerambycidae of Michigan (Coleoptera) Part I, Introduction and the Subfamilies Parandrinae, Prioninae, Spondylinae, Aseminae, and Cerambycinae
The Cerambycidae are generally acknowledged as one of the most popular families of Coleoptera, and it is not surprising that they have been collected widely in Michigan. Andrews (1916, 1921, 1929), Hatch (1924), Hubbard and Schwarz (1878), and Wickham (1895), included Cerambycidae in published lists of insects from various localities in the state. The present list, however, is the first to include records of collections made throughout Michigan. Some regions of the state have been rather thoroughly collected, particularly the southeastern counties. Collecting throughout Michigan has been sufficient to consider this list as essentially complete, although continued studies in the southwestern Lower Peninsula and the western Upper Peninsula will undoubtedly add a few species to the records
