The Eurovision St Andrews collection of photographs
This report describes the Eurovision image collection compiled for the ImageCLEF (Cross Language Evaluation Forum) evaluation exercise. The image collection consists of around 30,000 photographs from the collection provided by the University of St Andrews Library. The construction and composition of this unique image collection are described, together with the necessary information to obtain and use the image collection
Microvax-based data management and reduction system for the regional planetary image facilities
Presented is a progress report for the Regional Planetary Image Facilities (RPIF) prototype image data management and reduction system being jointly implemented by Washington University and the USGS, Flagstaff. The system will consist of a MicroVAX with a high capacity (approx 300 megabyte) disk drive, a compact disk player, an image display buffer, a videodisk player, USGS image processing software, and SYSTEM 1032 - a commercial relational database management package. The USGS, Flagstaff, will transfer their image processing software including radiometric and geometric calibration routines, to the MicroVAX environment. Washington University will have primary responsibility for developing the database management aspects of the system and for integrating the various aspects into a working system

Community Perceptions of Valparaiso University
Community relations is vital to an organization. Valparaiso University relies on the relationships within the community. For example, the university has a Town and Gown Committee representing the community and the university. This study surveys members of the Valparaiso community to assess the relationships and involvement of community members with the university. A survey was developed to measure attendance at various sporting events, art presentations, the chapel, the library, the union, and special presentations on campus. The questionnaire looked at how well the community was informed about events and asked to rate on a Likert Scale the image of Valparaiso University from a community perspective. The last question focused on the importance of Valparaiso University to the city of Valparaiso. This research indicated that reputation management is critical to public relations functions. Other research focused on community relations theory and the importance of relationship building. The results indicated the need for better communication between the community and the university. The respondents did not have a strong feeling of a relationship with the university. However, the respondents indicated a positive response toward the image of the university in terms of quality education and reputation
For the Jubilee of Vladimir Mikhailovich Chernov
On April 25, 2019, Vladimir Chernov celebrated his 70th birthday, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Chief Researcher at the Laboratory of Mathematical Methods of Image Processing of the Image Processing Systems Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IPSI RAS), a branch of the Federal Science Research Center "Crystallography and Photonics RAS and part-Time Professor at the Department of Geoinformatics and Information Security of the Samara National Research University named after academician S.P. Korolev (Samara University). The article briefly describes the scientific and pedagogical achievements of the hero of the day. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd
Studies of EGRET sources with a novel image restoration technique
We have developed an image restoration technique based on the Richardson-Lucy
algorithm optimized for GLAST-LAT image analysis. Our algorithm is original
since it utilizes the PSF (point spread function) that is calculated for each
event. This is critical for EGRET and GLAST-LAT image analysis since the PSF
depends on the energy and angle of incident gamma-rays and varies by more than
one order of magnitude. EGRET and GLAST-LAT image analysis also faces Poisson
noise due to low photon statistics. Our technique incorporates wavelet
filtering to minimize noise effects. We present studies of EGRET sources using
this novel image restoration technique for possible identification of extended
gamma-ray sources.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures. Presented at First GLAST Symposium, Stanford

Topology, homogeneity and scale factors for object detection: application of eCognition software for urban mapping using multispectral satellite image
The research scope of this paper is to apply spatial object based image
analysis (OBIA) method for processing panchromatic multispectral image covering
study area of Brussels for urban mapping. The aim is to map different land
cover types and more specifically, built-up areas from the very high resolution
(VHR) satellite image using OBIA approach. A case study covers urban landscapes
in the eastern areas of the city of Brussels, Belgium. Technically, this
research was performed in eCognition raster processing software demonstrating
excellent results of image segmentation and classification. The tools embedded
in eCognition enabled to perform image segmentation and objects classification
processes in a semi-automated regime, which is useful for the city planning,
spatial analysis and urban growth analysis. The combination of the OBIA method
together with technical tools of the eCognition demonstrated applicability of
this method for urban mapping in densely populated areas, e.g. in megapolis and
capital cities. The methodology included multiresolution segmentation and
classification of the created objects.Comment: 6 pages, 12 figures, INSO2015, Ed. by A. Girgvliani et al. Akaki
