Prototype ultrasonic instrument for quantitative testing
Ultrasonic instrument has been developed for use in quantitative nondestructive evaluation of material defects such as cracks, voids, inclusions, and unbonds. Instrument is provided with standard pulse source and transducer for each frequency range selected and includes integral aids that allow calibration to prescribed standards
Correlations among ultrasonic propagation factors and fracture toughness properties of metallic materials
Empirical evidence was developed to show that a close relation exists among fracture toughness, yield strength, and ultrasonic attenuation properties of metallic materials. The evidence was obtained by ultrasonic probing of specimens of two maraging steels and a titanium alloy. It was concluded that nondestructive ultrasonic methods can be used to indirectly evaluate fracture-related material properties. The results suggest that these nondestructive ultrasonic measurements can also serve as an adjunct to destructive testing, measurement, and analysis of fracture properties
Ultrasonic measurement of stress in 2219-T87 aluminum plate
The basic relationship of ultrasonic signal velocity to directional subsurface stress is reviewed. Inappropriateness of dependency on a single correlative value of constant for a three dimensional stress field in metallic materials is discussed. Implementation of conventional ultrasonic nondestructive testing capabilities integrated to provide a composite technique for the measurement of orthogonal stress components is described, and the procedures for performing the preparatory calibration and subsequent stress field measurements are presented. In conclusion, the prime effect of stress on ultrasonic signal velocity occurs only in the direction of material excitation or particle motion
Nondestructive testing using ultrasonic sensor
Nondestructive testing (NDT) is the process of inspection or evaluating materials or component without destroying the functionality, serviceability and the structure of the testing product. Therefore, after the inspection is done the testing product can still be used as usual compared to the destructive testing that can cause the damage to the testing product. In the other word destructive testing has limitation because of the technique need a sampling product rather than on the materials is already put into the service. NDT are often used to determine the properties of the materials such as strengthen ductility, porosity and toughness. Todays, NDT are widely used in industries, manufacturing, and fabrication and in service inspection to ensure the quality of the product. Besides that, NDT also can reduce production cost by minimize the damage onto the product and also can reduce the production time by without damaging the testing product. Also in construction field, there are many benefits from NDT process toward this area such as to evaluate the strength of concrete. There are many method of NDT today such as Magnetic Particle Testing, Ultrasonic Testing, and Vibration Analysis. For testing of the building basically people are used the Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) and Rebound Hammer. This paper is specifically discussed about the Nondestructive Testing (NDT) by using Ultrasonic
