    Uganda Microfinance Union (Umu): A Case Study

    The Uganda Microfinance Union (UMU) has become one of Uganda?s leading microfinance institutions. It began four years ago with a small equity loan of about US30,000andhasgrowntoUS30,000 and has grown to US1.5 million in total assets. Through a network of five branches, UMU serves16,577 clients (70% women), all of whom savers and 63% are borrowers. As of July 2001, UMU?s outstanding loan portfolio was US1millionandsavingswereoverUS1 million and savings were over US400,000. It is diversified: 50% of its portfolio is in trade, 35% in agriculture, 12% in services, and 3% in manufacturing. Its repayment rate has remained at 98% or above. Its operational sustainability is 111% and its financial selfsustainability 92%. What factors have contributed to UMU?s success? --

    AN ERROR ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ON DRAMA PERFORMANCE AT MA’HAD AL-JAMI’AH IAIN SYEKH NURJATI

    UMU HABIBAH : There are four skills that should be mastered by the students of secondary till university, including reading, listening, writing, and speaking. And the most important skill is speaking. The speaking proficiency has 4 components such as grammatical, fluency, pronunciation and vocabulary. The researcher found the difficulties of the student when they try to speak, they are lack in practicing English also ignoring with the first component of speaking. They passive in learning process. All of them become the concentration of this thesis. Scoring of the speaking proficiency is based on an evaluation of speaking competence for various oral tasks. so the researcher gives implementation of drama to know the students speaking skill. Teaching speaking through drama that involve with student‟s grammar, when they dialog or interact with other people the students try to make a good sentence in order to can deliver the message or the mean of sentence. The listener will catch easily when the speaker says structurally. According to Manser (1995: 182) stated that the grammar is a great deal of the rules for giving information words and making a sentence. This research was conducted on may, 8th – 8th june 2013 at Ma’had Aljami’ah IAIN Syekh Nurjati. In doing this research, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative approach. The researcher uses various techniques with 17 students as the research sample. The techniques of collecting data which are used by the researcher are observation, test and questionnaire. To know the students‟ response of drama activities. The researcher has given questionnaire to the students. And then, it was found out the highest score is 62 and the lowest score is 52. The average score of the students‟ response was 58. This score can be can be considered as “ enough”. It means that the students‟ response of drama activities is enough.To know the students‟ competence, the researcher has given the test to the students. It was find out that the highest score was 90 and the lowest score was 58. The average score of the test was 73,9. This score could be categorized as “ good” . It means that the students speaking competence is good. The result from observation based on students‟ drama performance. With the pie chart it can be known that the students mostly made an error grammatical error consist they are still confused about the type of 16 tense, then 62% students made an error of wrong tense formation, 9% preposition,6% article, 9% relative pronoun and to be 14%. When the researcher applies drama to know the students ability, the students get interested in learning grammar by drama. The students need to remember continuously about the role of English.     Upaya Meningkatkan Kosa Kata Bahasa Inggris Melalui Kegiatan Bernyanyi Pada Anak Kelompok A TK Pertiwi I Jirapan 2012/2013

    Bahasa merupakan salah satu aspek perkembangan anak yang perlu ditingkatkan. Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa kedua merupakan bagian dari aspek bahasa pada anak yang dapat ditingkatkan melalui kegiatan bernyanyi. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan penguasaan kosa kata bahasa Inggris melalui kegiatan bernyanyi pada anak kelompok A di TK Pertiwi I Jirapan Tahun Ajaran 2012/2013. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini dilaksanakan dalam tiga siklus, masing – masing siklus terdiri dari empat tahap yaitu perencanaan tindakan, pelaksanaan tindakan, observasi, refleksi. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan yaitu deskriptif komparatif, yaitu data yang dianalisis dilaksanakan sejak pembelajaran dan dikembangkan selama proses refleksi sampai proses penyusunan laporan. Teknik analisis data terdiri dari tiga alur kegiatan, yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data serta penarikan kesimpulan. Dari hasil penelitian menyimpulkan adanya peningkatan penguasaan kosa kata bahasa Inggris pada anak melalui kegiatan bernyanyi, yaitu sebeblum tindakan 44,79%, siklus I mengalami peningkatan menjadi 60,83%, siklus II mencapai 80,41%, dan siklus III mencapai 90,20%. Maka kesimpulan dari penelitian tindakan kelas ini ialah melalui kegiatan bernyanyi dapat meningkatkan penguasaan kosa kata bahasa Inggris pada anak kelompok A TK Pertiwi I Jirapan Tahun Ajaran 2012/2013. Hal ini sekaligus membuktikan bahwa hipotesis yang diajukan telah teruji kebenarannya

    The current study aims at describing the implementation of Genre-based Approach at MTsN Kalijambe Sragen. The objective of the current study is to describe the teaching learning process at MTsN Kalijambe Sragen using Genre-based Approach. In this current study the writer applies at descriptive qualitative research uses ethnographic study as the type of this research. In this research, the data are derived from event, document, and informant. There are three methods of collecting data namely: observation, interview, and document. The techniques for analyzing data are reducing, display, and verifying. The result of this research shows in the learning objectives, model of syllabus, the material of teaching, the classroom procedure, classroom activities and the problem faced by the teacher. The goal of teaching English is to enable the students in understanding English as means of communication and active in practicing English. The classroom procedure consists of two patterns. The first patterns are BKOF, MOT, JCOT, and ICOT. The second patterns are BKOF, MOT, and ICOT. The classroom activities consist of the activities during BKOF, namely asking question and giving explanation. The activity during MOT is giving model text. The activity during JCOT is group work and the activities during ICOT are giving task in the classroom and giving the task as homework. The writer also found the problems faced by the teacher, namely lack of students’ activity, student vocabulary and pronunciation, different capability of the student, difficulties in managing the class, and the lack of time. The teacher of MTsN Kalijambe Sragen does not always use the stages of Genre-based Approach in teaching English

    UMU KHOTIMAH : Peran Baitul Mal Wat Tamwil (BMT) Al-Ishlah 14122211060 Bobos Dalam Pemberdayaan UMKM Pemberdayaan menjadi hal yang penting dalam upaya mengantisipasi permasalahan kesenjangan sosial ekonomi masyarakat. Kesenjangan itu adalah akibat dari kepemilikan sumber daya produksi dan produktivitas yang tidak sama diantara pelaku ekonomi. Baitul mal wat tamwil adalah balai usaha mandiri terpadu yang isinya berintikan bayt al-mal wa al-tamwil dengan kegiatan mengembangkan usaha-usaha produktif dan investasi dalam meningkatkan kualitas kegiatan ekonomi pengusaha kecil bawah dan kecil, oleh karena itu peran BMT dalam pemberdayaan UMKM sangat penting bagi kesejahteraan masyarakat. Dalam penelitian ini penulis membahas mengenai: Bagaimana Peran BMT Al-Ishlah Bobos dalam pemberdayaan UMKM, Bagaimana Hambatan dan Tantangan BMT Al-Ishlah Bobos dalam Pemberdayaan UMKM. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui Peran UMKM Al- Ishlah Bobos dalam pemberdayaan UMKM, dan untuk mengetahui hambatan dan tantangan BMT Al-Ishlah Bobos dalam pemberdayaan UMKM. Penulisan ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif, data yang diperoleh didapat dari dua jenis sumber data yaitu sumber data primer dan sumber data skunder, teknik pengumpulan datanya adalah wawancara; observasi; dan dokumentasi, teknik analisis datanya adalah Setelah data terkumpul penulis melakukan seleksi data kemudian mengklasifikasikan sesuai dengan tujuan penelitian; Data-data yang masuk diperoleh dari narasumber dan dihubungkan dengan teori-teori yang relevan dengan masalah-masalah yang dibahas, Menafsirkan data yang dipilih dengan menggunakan kerangka berpikir yang cermat, Penarikan kesimpulan dari hasil lapangan dan dari hasil studi kepustkaan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa, Peran BMT Al-Ishlah Bobos dalam pemberdayaan UMKM sudah dirasakan oleh masyarakat (nasabah), peran yang dirasakan adalah pembiayaan murabahah dan pembinaan kepada masyarakat (nasabah). Hambatan dantantangan BMT dalam pemberdayaan UMKM Hambatan dan tantangan BMT dalam pemberdayakan UMKM sangat dirasakan oleh BMT, hambatannya yang dirasakan BMT adalah Masih kurang terbinanya komunitas UMKM disekitar BMT, Produk yang ditawarkan BMT lebih inovatif dan variatif dibanding Bank Syariah, Fasilitas yang masih kurang mewadai. Sedangkan tantangan yang dirasakan BMT adalah SDM yang belum maksimal, Nasabah yang bermasalah, Jenis usaha yang berbeda-beda, Kendala pada aspek hukum juga masih dijumpai, Peran pemerintanh daerah yang kurang maksimal.     The results of the study found 1) learning management Indonesian language implemented in Elementary School of Tempel and Sultan Agung there are the teachers prepare learning such as syllabi, semester program, materials and learning tools, and the lesson plan, for implementation beginning teacher learning activities, core and closing, while for the final activity the teacher gives homework assignments and summarize the material. 2) learning management models in the Elementary School Indonesian Foreign Paste conventional while still learning management Indonesian Elementary School in Sultan Agung is conventional but has developed learning by applying thematic learning, active learning, creative, effective and fun, as well as cooperative learning though not maximum **** Hasil penelitian ditemukan 1) manajemen pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia yang dilaksanakan di Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri Tempel dan Sultan Agung antara lain guru menyiapkan pembelajaran seperti silabus, program semester, bahan dan alat pembelajaran, dan rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran, untuk pelaksanaan pembelajaran guru melakukan kegiatan awal, inti dan penutup, sedangkan untuk kegiatan akhir guru memberikan tugas pekerjaan rumah dan merangkum materi. 2) model manajemen pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia di Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri Tempel masih konvensional sedangkan manajemen pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia di Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Sultan Agung konvensional akan tetapi telah mengembangkan pembelajarannya dengan menerapkan pembelajaran tematik, pembelajaran aktif, kreatif, efektif dan menyenangkan, serta pembelajaran kooperatif meskipun belum maksimal

    Search for brown-dwarf like secondaries in cataclysmic variables II

    We have examined VTL/ISAAC 1-2.5 \umum spectroscopy of a sample of short orbital period cataclysmic variables which are candidates for harboring substellar companions. We provide descriptions of the infrared spectrum of \hbox{EI Psc}, \hbox{V834 Cen}, \hbox{WX Cet}, \hbox{VW Hyi}, \hbox{TY PsA} and \hbox{BW Scl}. Fitting of the IR spectral energy distribution (SED) was performed by comparing the observed spectrum with late-type templates. Absorption features of the secondary star were detected in \hbox{EI Psc} and \hbox{V834 Cen}, consistent with dwarf secondaries of spectral type K 5 ±\pm 1 and M 8 ±\pm 0.5, respectively. In addition, we report the first detection of the secondary star in \hbox{VW Hyi}. The SED in this case is well matched by an L 0 ±\pm 2 type secondary contributing 23 per cent to the overall flux at λ\lambda = 1.15 \umum. This is a surprising result for a system with a relatively high mass transfer rate. We discuss the implication of our findings on the current scenarios for cataclysmic variable star evolution.Comment: accepted for publication in MNRA

    NonLocal Systems of Balance Laws in Several Space Dimensions with Applications to Laser Technolog

    For a class of systems of nonlinear and nonlocal balance laws in several space dimensions, we prove the local in time existence of solutions and their continuous dependence on the initial datum. The choice of this class is motivated by a new model devoted to the description of a metal plate being cut by a laser beam. Using realistic parameters, solutions to this model obtained through numerical integrations meet qualitative properties of real cuts.
