Design of space-type electronic power transformers
Both open and encapsulated varieties of high reliability, low weight, and high efficiency moderate and high voltage transformers were investigated to determine the advantages and limitations of their construction in the ranges of power and voltage required for operation in the hard vacuum environment of space. Topics covered include: (1) selection of the core material; (2) preliminary calculation of core dimensions; (3) selection of insulating materials including magnet wire insulation, coil forms, and layer and interwinding insulation; (4) coil design; (5) calculation of copper losses, core losses and efficiency; (6) calculation of temperature rise; and (7) optimization of design with changes in core selection or coil design as required to meet specifications
Type Classes for Lightweight Substructural Types
Linear and substructural types are powerful tools, but adding them to
standard functional programming languages often means introducing extra
annotations and typing machinery. We propose a lightweight substructural type
system design that recasts the structural rules of weakening and contraction as
type classes; we demonstrate this design in a prototype language, Clamp.
Clamp supports polymorphic substructural types as well as an expressive
system of mutable references. At the same time, it adds little additional
overhead to a standard Damas-Hindley-Milner type system enriched with type
classes. We have established type safety for the core model and implemented a

E-BioFlow: Different Perspectives on Scientific Workflows

e-BioFlow and illustrate it by means of a simple sequence alignment workflow. E-BioFlow, intended to model advanced scientific workflows, enables the user to model a workflow from three different but strongly coupled perspectives: the control flow perspective, the data flow perspective, and the resource perspective. All three perspectives are of\ud
equal importance, but workflow designers from different domains prefer different perspectives as entry points for their design, and a single workflow designer may prefer different perspectives in different stages of workflow design. Each perspective provides its own type of information, visualisation and support for validation. Combining these three perspectives in a single application provides a new and flexible way of modelling workflows
