Transport system as an element of sustainable economic growth in the tourist region
Transport system is a whole composed of technical, technological, organisational, economic and legislative elements with the aim to perform transfer, loading and unloading of goods and passengers. Taking in consideration that most economic activities demand participation of certain transport system elements, any economic growth is impossible without an adequate transport system development. In order to secure environmental sustainable economic growth the economic policy subjects have to pay special attention to those parts of economy whose negative impact on environment cannot be neglected. One of them is transport. The influence of transport on environment consists in emission of gasses, smokes, noise and visual degradation of nature. A part of economic system that is extremely sensitive regarding environmental devastation is tourism. At the same time the efficiency of tourism strongly depends of the level of transport system development. On the example of interdependence of transport system and tourism in the Adriatic region the possibility of optimising the balance between these economic activities will be examined.
Integrated Quality Management Model on the Example of Destination Split
Integrated Quality Management (IQM) is argumentative and efficient method proposed by the European Commission to reach and maintain tourist products and services quality in destinations. The paper presents IQM possibilities and phases in Split where tourism could base on events and contents quality and diversity, gastronomic and catering offer or destination cleanliness and ecological acceptability. Split should accept proved quality improvement method and adopt European IQM model. Benchmarking Split with Stockholm, IQM method implementation is suggested for Split to keep its comparative advantages and enable long-term market competitiveness. Adopting IQM method completes value chain of Split tourism, depending on cooperation of all included in tourist activity: local and state authorities, tourism entrepreneurs, local population. Establishing institutional leader as destination management organisation, Split provides cooperation and partnership. Three development scenarios for Split were compared and repositioning suggested on all levels by stressing quality aspect.quality management, destination, benchmarking, partnership
(IN ENGLISH: This is a case study of the place Povlja on the island of Brač. The aim of the study is to outline several possible development scenarios for the place with regard to its economic situation, primarily tourism and agriculture. Some reference and comparison is made to agriculture and tourism of other Adriatic islands. The analysis of documentation and statistical data present the demographic picture of Povlja and its tourist potential; the method of semi-structured interviews with permanent and periodical/temporary residents of Povlja examines what they see as the main driving force of development. They also express their views on the most likely and the least desirable scenario of the three (mass tourism, sustainable tourism and stagnation).

Rural tourism in Krapina-zagorje county
Rural tourism in Croatia is not developed enough, but Krapina-zagorje county has good preconditions because it is a rural area, near Zagreb. SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF HIGHLY TOURISTIC REGION OF ISTRIA
As the scale of tourism grows, the resource use threatens to become unsustainable. Withought environmental responsibility the levels of cheaper mass tourism will increase, forcing more “nature-based” tourism to move on to new destinations. This scenario is opposite to the “Croatian Tourism Development by 2010” strategy. With a favourable geographic position, almost at the heart of Europe, Istria has always represented a bridge connecting the Middle European continental area with the Mediterranean. This area is the most visited Croatian tourist region with 27% of all visitors and 35% of time spent in all of Croatia. The Croatian National Bank’s preliminary figures for 2007 show that international tourism generated 18.4% of Croatian GDP. For these reasons the Istrian tourism industry can not ignore environmental issues in its management and requires the informed participation of all relevant stakeholders (according to the Agenda 21 for tourism industry). Properly planned tourism development, combined with environmental protection, produces the concept of sustainable tourism. Environmentally sustainable form of tourism represents a step forward from "sea and sun" mass tourism developed at the coastal part of Istria. There are a myriad of definitions for Sustainable Tourism, including eco-tourism, green travel, environmentally and culturally responsible tourism, fair trade and ethical travel. Mentioned selective tourism forms are adopted as the concept of the present and future Istrian destination development.sustainability, Istria, tourism development
Spatial Structure of Tourism in The City of Umag
Potencijal Grada Umaga leži u sportskom i nautičkom turizmu kao rješenju problema sezonalnosti, no potrebne mjere iziskuju veća infrastrukturna ulaganja. This paper analyzes how tourism has developed in the City of Umag and what its spatial structure is like today. CODES OF CONDUCT IN TOURISM AND THEIR IMPACT ON SUSTAINABLE TOURISM
Codes of Conduct. Tourism is a large and complex system which, in order to achieve a long term suc¬cess, needs to implement the sustainability principles in the process of its planning and development. A significant role in creating such a development belongs to the public sector. However, as for the creation of certain measures for improvement of the behaviour of tourists and of increasing their awareness of effects that could occur in case of their inadequate and irresponsible behaviour, volun¬tary initiatives tend to have an even greater importance. This paper gives an overview of the most im¬portant voluntary initiatives and codes of conduct in tourism and discusses their impact on the be¬haviour of all participants in tourism. The focus is on the global and local voluntary initiatives concerned with the behaviour of tourists, the so-called Codes of Conduct. A significant number of these codes exist at the global and local level, but they are not unified and are often very difficult to trace. The implementation of codes of conduct is often rather difficult, which is why the application of responsible marketing becomes almost necessary. The focus of responsible marketing should not be the pure attraction of tourists to the destination, but also their sensitization to the desti¬nation, as well as minimizing the negative effects of tourism development
