Demonstrating the feasibility of standardized application program interfaces that will allow mobile/portable terminals to receive services combining UMTS and DVB-T
Crucial to the commercial exploitation of any service combining UMTS and DVB-T is the availability of standardized APIâs adapted to the hybrid UMTS and DVB-T network and to the technical limitations of mobile/portable terminals. This paper describes work carried out in the European Commission Framework Program 5 (FP5) project CONFLUENT to demonstrate the feasibility of such Application Program Interfaces (APIâs) by enabling the reception of a Multimedia Home Platform (MHP) based application transmitted over DVB-T on five different terminals with parts of the service running on a mobile phone
A Video Tour through ViSta 6.4
This paper offers a visual tour throughout ViSta 6.4, a freeware statistical program based on Lisp-Stat and focused on techniques for statistical visualization (Young 2004). This travel around ViSta is based on screen recordings that illustrate the main features of the program in action. The following aspects of ViSta 6.4 are displayed: the program's interface (ViSta's desktop, menubar and pop-up menus, help system); its data management capabilities (data input and editing, data transformations); features associated to data analysis (data description, statistical modeling); and the options for Lisp-Stat development in ViSta. The video recordings associated to this tour (.wmv files) can be visualized at http://www.jstatsoft.org/v13/i08/ using the Internet Explorer navigator, or by clicking on the figures in the paper.
Ohio: Individual State Report - State Level Field Network Study of the Implementation of the Affordable Care Act
This report is part of a series of 21 state and regional studies examining the rollout of the ACA. The national network -- with 36 states and 61 researchers -- is led by the Rockefeller Institute of Government, the public policy research arm of the State University of New York, the Brookings Institution, and the Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania.Over the past year, state agency leadership and some members of the legislature have taken an interest in exploring various healthcare reforms in Ohio that address rising healthcare costs and identifying ways to improve healthcare quality, efficiency, and improve overall health outcomes for Ohioans. For example, the legislature included language around healthcare price transparency in the most recent state budget and formed a study committee for the summer of 2015 with the purpose of examining healthcare efficiencies that lead to better health outcomes at a lower cost to Ohioans
The Experience of Informal Caregivers for Persons with Metastatic Cancer Perceptions of Support
Presented to the Faculty
of the University of Alaska Anchorage
in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements
for the Degree of
MASTER OF SCIENCEPurpose/Objectives: To investigate the experience and perceptions of support of caregivers for
persons with advanced cancer.
Research Approach: A qualitative descriptive approach using focus groups to explore the
caregiver experience.
Setting: An outpatient oncology infusion center in southcentral Alaska.
Participants: 14 adult caregivers of persons with stage IV cancer.
Methodologic Approach: Participants attended one of two focus groups. They were asked to
share their experiences as informal caregivers. Focus groups were digitally recorded and
transcribed verbatim for analysis. Kruegerâs method for content coding and data analysis was
used to identify themes (1998).
Findings: Key themes that emerged during data analysis included internal stressors such as
emotional and psychological distress, and external stressors of needed financial support and
nutritional information, suggesting the stated need of a more comprehensive care approach.
Conclusions: Participants recognized needs but did not feel they were supported in accessing
resources. The experience of caregiving was often abrupt in onset in this population and the
overwhelming amount of information they received did not include enough information on the
act of caregiving or the resources available.
Implications for Nursing: Advanced practice nurses are instrumental in identifying and
addressing caregiver needs. As patient educators and advocates, they provide education and
resource support to both the patients and the caregivers in an effort to minimize caregiver
exhaustion
Global Health Navigators: A new component in a refugee-centered medical home model of care
