Transformation
Prior to leaving for Claremont Colleges’ Envriolab Asia trip to Malaysia and Singapore, I was conflicted by the question: Do we have the moral authority to interfere with resource extraction and oil-palm development in SE Asia? At that time, the trip seemed imperialistic. Why should people from Malaysia, Indonesia or any developing SE Asia country listen to a group of liberal arts college faculty from a city where widespread habitat modifications have led to significant loss of native habitats, declines in biodiversity, and changes in how these ecosystems function? Many observations transformed my opinion and have inspired me to advocate for transformative environmental and social change both in SE Asia and at home

Advancing Pediatric Antibacterial Drug Development: A Critical Need to Reinvent our Approach.
The Clinical Trials Transformation Initiative convened with several groups in the pediatric antibacterial drug development community with the goal of identifying challenges and recommending ways to improve current practice. Attention to 5 major areas hold the promise of making new antibiotics available for use in children as soon as possible after they are approved for use in adults
Integral transformation and Darboux transformation
We review Darboux-Crum transformation of Heun's differential equation. By
rewriting an integral transformation of Heun's differential equation into a
form of elliptic functions, we see that the integral representation is a
generalization of Darboux-Crum transformation. We also consider conservation of
monodromy with respect to the transformations.Comment: 7 pages, based on the talk presented at International Workshop on

Lorentz-transformation and Galileo-transformation Windows
We define Lorentz-transformation windows as windows that change the direction of transmitted light rays like a Lorentz transformation. Similarly, Galileo-transformation windows change the direction of transmitted light rays like a Galileo transformation. This light-ray-direction change distorts the scene seen through such a window in the same way in which the scene would be distorted in a photo taken with a camera moving through the scene. Lorentz-transformation windows can also undo the distortion of the scene when moving at relativistic velocity relative to it. For small angles between the direction of the light rays and the direction of the velocity, Galileo-transformation windows can be realised with relatively simple telescope windows, which consist of arrays of identical micro-telescopes
Optical transformation from chirplet to fractional Fourier transformation kernel
We find a new integration transformation which can convert a chirplet
function to fractional Fourier transformation kernel, this new transformation
is invertible and obeys Parseval theorem. Under this transformation a new
relationship between a phase space function and its Weyl-Wigner quantum
correspondence operator is revealed.Comment: 3 pages, no figur
Appropriation and Transformation
The recent decision in Cariou v. Prince has reinvigorated a pressing issue for the contemporary movement of appropriation art: how can art which is defined by its taking from other artworks hope to survive in the world of copyright? In this article, I consider the legal history leading to the Cariou case, including a series of suits brought against appropriation artist Jeff Koons, as well as strategies proposed by several theorists for accommodating appropriation art within the law. Unfortunately, largely due to vagaries of the law and the misunderstood nature of appropriation art, the matter remains unresolved. I argue that, by investing borrowed material with new ideas, appropriation artists create new expressions and so transform their original sources. Being in line with the Constitutional mandate of copyright law, I suggest that such works of appropriation art be treated as presumptively fair uses
