Indoor gigabit optical wireless communications: challenges and possibilities
Indoor Gigabit optical wireless communication systems have the potential to offer multiple high-speed data services that can be delivered to homes via an optical fibre cable in the near future. In this paper we will discuss the challenges involved in the design of such systems and future possible advances. Results from a recent cellular Gigabit prototype link will also be presented and discussed
An Implementation Approach and Performance Analysis of Image Sensor Based Multilateral Indoor Localization and Navigation System
Optical camera communication (OCC) exhibits considerable importance nowadays
in various indoor camera based services such as smart home and robot-based
automation. An android smart phone camera that is mounted on a mobile robot
(MR) offers a uniform communication distance when the camera remains at the
same level that can reduce the communication error rate. Indoor mobile robot
navigation (MRN) is considered to be a promising OCC application in which the
white light emitting diodes (LEDs) and an MR camera are used as transmitters
and receiver respectively. Positioning is a key issue in MRN systems in terms
of accuracy, data rate, and distance. We propose an indoor navigation and
positioning combined algorithm and further evaluate its performance. An android
application is developed to support data acquisition from multiple simultaneous
transmitter links. Experimentally, we received data from four links which are
required to ensure a higher positioning accuracy
High speed train communications systems using free space optics
In this work, we propose a broad-band free space optical (FSO) wireless communications system for high-speed trains. The system consists of optical transceivers positioned outside the train and along the railway track. The train receivers are in the coverage area of base stations positioned along the railway track to ensure continuous link availability. In this paper, we present modelling of two cases for over-ground and underground train systems before embarking to practically implement the system in our research laboratory. Also discussed is the protocol for the data distribution along the track as well as the initial experimental demonstration of the proposed link
