Software (Re-)Engineering with PSF II: from architecture to implementation
This paper presents ongoing research on the application of PSF in the field
of software engineering and reengineering. We build a new implementation for
the simulator of the PSF Toolkit starting from the specification in PSF of the
architecture of a simple simulator and extend it with features to obtain the
architecture of a full simulator. We apply refining and constraining techniques
on the specification of the architecture to obtain a specification low enough
to build an implementation from
Software (Re-)Engineering with PSF III: an IDE for PSF
We describe the design of an integrated development environment (IDE) for
PSF. In the software engineering process we used process algebra in the form of
PSF for the specification of the architecture of the IDE. This specification is
refined to a PSF specification of the IDE system as a ToolBus application, by
applying vertical and horizontal implementation techniques. We implemented the
various tools as specified and connected them with a ToolBus script extracted
from the system specification
A Process Algebra Software Engineering Environment
In previous work we described how the process algebra based language PSF can
be used in software engineering, using the ToolBus, a coordination architecture
also based on process algebra, as implementation model. In this article we
summarize that work and describe the software development process more formally
by presenting the tools we use in this process in a CASE setting, leading to
the PSF-ToolBus software engineering environment. We generalize the refine step
in this environment towards a process algebra based software engineering
workbench of which several instances can be combined to form an environment
A Geant4 based engineering tool for Fresnel lenses
Geant4 is a Monte Carlo radiation transport toolkit that is becoming a tool
of generalized application in areas such as high-energy physics, nuclear
physics, astroparticle physics, or medical physics. Geant4 provides an optical
physics process category, allowing the simulation of the production and
propagation of light. Its capabilities are well tailored for the simulation of
optics systems namely in cosmic-rays experiments based in the detection of
Cherenkov and fluorescence light. The use of Geant4 as an engineering tool for
the optics design and simulation of Fresnel lens systems is discussed through a

Characterization and Improvement of the Image Quality of the Data Taken with the Infrared Camera (IRC) Mid-Infrared Channels onboard AKARI
Mid-infrared images frequently suffer artifacts and extended point spread
functions (PSFs). We investigate the characteristics of the artifacts and the
PSFs in images obtained with the Infrared Camera (IRC) onboard AKARI at four
mid-infrared bands of the S7 (7{\mu}m), S11 (11{\mu}m), L15 (15{\mu}m), and L24
(24 {\mu}m). Removal of the artifacts significantly improves the reliability of
the ref- erence data for flat-fielding at the L15 and L24 bands. A set of
models of the IRC PSFs is also constructed from on-orbit data. These PSFs have
extended components that come from diffraction and scattering within the
detector arrays. We estimate the aperture correction factors for point sources
and the surface brightness correction factors for diffuse sources. We conclude
that the surface brightness correction factors range from 0.95 to 0.8, taking
account of the extended component of the PSFs. To correct for the extended PSF
effects for the study of faint structures, we also develop an image
reconstruction method, which consists of the deconvolution with the PSF and the
convolution with an appropriate Gaussian. The appropriate removal of the
artifacts, improved flat-fielding, and image reconstruction with the extended
PSFs enable us to investigate de- tailed structures of extended sources in IRC
