Modeling IT Value based on Meta-Analysis

    Get PDF
Over the last two decades, research about IT value has been done. The main purpose of IT values research is to determine how IT investment gives impact and value to organization performance. Because of vital role and function of IT, the organization required to understand how IT could create business value. Therefore, an understanding of IT value is needed. Systematic literature review in meta-analysis is required to determine the relationship between IT resources, organization capabilities, organization core competencies, and organization performances. The research was conducted on 53 publications which generate the classification matrix components that have an impact on organization performance. Hypothesis testing results that organization has the best performance on financial, efficiency, and other performance through external capability and core competence. So, indirect effect model is better than direct effect model in explaining IT value

Resource-based View in Information Systems Research: A Meta-Analysis

Resource-based view is the theory that has been applied to analyze the impact of informa-tion technology on business performance. Its main argument is that competitive advan-tages are determined by the unique valuable resources controlled by an organization. IT as a valuable asset will have positive effect on firm performance. However, previous re-search on the issue is inconsistent. This paper reports a meta analysis of 42 papers pub-lished in major journals in information systems. Our findings indicate that the capability mediated model is better than the direct effect model and the major impact of IT is on ef-ficiency indicators

A Conceptual Framework for Investigating Suppliers’ Participation in Business-to-Government (B2G) Electronic Auction Markets in the Thai Context

Business-to-government (B2G) electronic auction (e-auction) markets are increasingly being used to create opportunities for suppliers to expand their market as well as trading activities. However, little has been done to understand the behaviour of suppliers participating in these markets. In this paper, we propose a framework to explain suppliers’ intention to participate, and the level of participation in B2G e-auction markets, which will be tested in the Thai B2G e-auction markets. Low supplier participation has been a major problem in the Thai e-auction markets. We posit that suppliers’ participation depends on organisational motivation, environmental uncertainty, and their capabilities. The conceptual framework draws from the Motivation-Ability Framework, Transaction Cost Theory, Institutional Theory, and Resource-Based Theory. It proposes that four key constructs - efficiency motive, legitimacy motive, environmental uncertainty, and organisational capabilities influence suppliers’ intention to participate as well as their participation level in B2G e-auction markets

What Dynamic Capability are Needed to Implement E-Business

The study focuses on what capabilities are needed to implement electronic business (E-Business) successfully. We utilize an E-business innovation model to analyse the key differences in both business technology and business model dimensions between brick-and-mortar business and E-Business. The results indicate that the nature of the innovation from brick-and-mortar business to E-business is a radical change for the incumbents. A set of dynamic capabilities of exploiting and implementing E-business is identified. These results provide great insight for practitioners and scholars for enhancing their understanding of E-business innovation and provide guidelines to help incumbents adapt to new E-business applications

Despite business-to-government (B2G) electronic auction (e-auction) markets being a way for suppliers to create opportunities for market expansion and for trading activities, little has been done to understand the behaviour of suppliers participating in these markets. In this paper, we propose a framework to explain suppliers’ intention to participate, and the level of participation in B2G eauction markets, which will be tested in the Thai B2G e-auction markets. It proposes that four key constructs - efficiency motive, legitimacy motive, environmental uncertainty, and organisational capabilities influence suppliers’ intention to participate as well as their participation level in B2G e-auction markets. The conceptual framework is developed by drawing on our understanding of the Thai electronic auction market as well as from extensive literature. We believe this framework may be useful to better understand the key reasons for suppliers to participate in B2G e-auction markets

Business Value of Enterprise Micro-Blogs: Empirical Study from weibo.com in Sina

    Get PDF
The increasing use of micro-blogs as marketing tools has increased the research attention on the usage and performance of enterprise micro-blogs. Based on research on information system (IS) usage and the resource-based view (RBV) theory, this study develops a model to measure the business value of enterprise micro-blogs. The model consists of metrics on micro-blog usage, micro-blog operational performance, firm capability, and performance. Questionnaires were distributed to firms that use micro-blogs. This study collects 317 valid responses for empirical analysis. The result suggests that the extent of micro-blog usage improves the operational performance of enterprise micro-blogs directly and indirectly by increasing firm capability. The operational performance of enterprise micro-blogs significantly affects firm performance. This study reveals the mechanism of business value generation of enterprise micro-blogs and extends the stream of research that combines IS usage and the RBV theory

Transitioning to an Omnichannel Approach: A Dynamic Capability Perspective

    Get PDF
The proliferation of digital devices and services has fundamentally changed consumer behavior and needs, and thus the way consumers engage with firms. Many consumers want to engage with firms across all channels, enjoying seamless switching and simultaneous use. Within this dynamic channel environment, the omnichannel concept has been proposed as an appropriate approach to fulfill these demands. However, in practice, many firms do not yet provide an omnichannel experience and need to transform. With this research-in-progress paper, we outline our approach to investigating this phenomenon based on the concept of dynamic capabilities. With insight gained through a multiple case study approach, we hope to give practitioners decision support and researchers new stimuli for further research by identifying best practice dynamic capabilities for transitioning to omnichannel management

Promoting Resilience of the Nigerian Aviation Industry Through Management Information System Capability: A Conceptual Model

Organisational resilience commands the attention of scholars and industry gatekeepers due to its attendant outcomes, which include competitiveness, growth, innovativeness and the ability to rebound from crises; and thrive on the edge of a complex and tumultuous business environment. Several studies have been conducted on the nexus between various constructs and organisational resilience. However, there is scant literature that illuminates the path between management information system capability and organisational resilience. Moreover, the concept of resilience has suffered from semantic pluralism, thereby leading to a confusing maze of measures. This paper distills the concept of resilience from literature and concludes that anticipatory ability, robustness, adaptability and agility capture the nuances of organisational resilience. Finally, this paper proposes a theorising logic that infrastructural operation capability, systems development capability, service support maturity and managerial skills are facets of management information system capability which holds the promise of amplifying the resilience of the Nigerian Aviation Industry. The theorising logic of this paper is presented as a conceptual model which opens several windows for testing.
