Cross Layer Aware Adaptive MAC based on Knowledge Based Reasoning for Cognitive Radio Computer Networks
In this paper we are proposing a new concept in MAC layer protocol design for
Cognitive radio by combining information held by physical layer and MAC layer
with analytical engine based on knowledge based reasoning approach. In the
proposed system a cross layer information regarding signal to interference and
noise ratio (SINR) and received power are analyzed with help of knowledge based
reasoning system to determine minimum power to transmit and size of contention
window, to minimize backoff, collision, save power and drop packets. The
performance analysis of the proposed protocol indicates improvement in power
saving, lowering backoff and significant decrease in number of drop packets.
The simulation environment was implement using OMNET++ discrete simulation tool
with Mobilty framework and MiXiM simulation library.Comment: 8 page
A heterogeneous peer-to-peer network testbed
In this paper, we describe a heterogeneous peer-to-peer network testbed, which is developed as part of a joint research project to investigate novel resource discovery and content distribution protocols in a heterogeneous wired/wireless environment. We describe the testbed requirements, the testbed architecture, the multi-functional wireless node, and the software architecture. A High-Accuracy Nonintrusive Networking Testbed for Wireless Sensor Networks
It becomes increasingly important to obtain the accurate and spontaneous runtime network behavior for further studies onwireless sensor networks. However, the existing testbeds cannot appropriately match such requirements. A High-accuracyNonintrusive Networking Testbed (HINT) is proposed. In HINT, the interconnected chip-level signals are passively captured withauxiliary test boards and the captured data are transferred in additional networks to test server. The test server of HINT collects allthe test data and depicts the full network behavior. HINT supports networking test, protocol verification, performance evaluationand so on. The experiments show that HINT transparently gathers accurate runtime data and does not disturb the spontaneousbehavior of sensor networks. HINT is also extendible to different hardware platforms of sensor nodes. Consequently, HINT isan upstanding testbed solution for the future fine-grained and experimental studies on the resource-constrained wireless sensornetworks
Synergizing Roadway Infrastructure Investment with Digital Infrastructure for Infrastructure-Based Connected Vehicle Applications: Review of Current Status and Future Directions

The Publisher's final version can be found by following the DOI link.The safety, mobility, environmental and economic benefits of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) are potentially dramatic. However, realization of these benefits largely hinges on the timely upgrading of the existing transportation system. CAVs must be enabled to send and receive data to and from other vehicles and drivers (V2V communication) and to and from infrastructure (V2I communication). Further, infrastructure and the transportation agencies that manage it must be able to collect, process, distribute and archive these data quickly, reliably, and securely. This paper focuses on current digital roadway infrastructure initiatives and highlights the importance of including digital infrastructure investment alongside more traditional infrastructure investment to keep up with the auto industry's push towards this real time communication and data processing capability. Agencies responsible for transportation infrastructure construction and management must collaborate, establishing national and international platforms to guide the planning, deployment and management of digital infrastructure in their jurisdictions. This will help create standardized interoperable national and international systems so that CAV technology is not deployed in a haphazard and uncoordinated manner
Building Programmable Wireless Networks: An Architectural Survey
In recent times, there have been a lot of efforts for improving the ossified
Internet architecture in a bid to sustain unstinted growth and innovation. A
major reason for the perceived architectural ossification is the lack of
ability to program the network as a system. This situation has resulted partly
from historical decisions in the original Internet design which emphasized
decentralized network operations through co-located data and control planes on
each network device. The situation for wireless networks is no different
resulting in a lot of complexity and a plethora of largely incompatible
wireless technologies. The emergence of "programmable wireless networks", that
allow greater flexibility, ease of management and configurability, is a step in
the right direction to overcome the aforementioned shortcomings of the wireless
networks. In this paper, we provide a broad overview of the architectures
proposed in literature for building programmable wireless networks focusing
primarily on three popular techniques, i.e., software defined networks,
cognitive radio networks, and virtualized networks. This survey is a
self-contained tutorial on these techniques and its applications. We also
discuss the opportunities and challenges in building next-generation
programmable wireless networks and identify open research issues and future
