Security breaches have increasingly become a major threat to organizations. Nevertheless, according to recent reports, many organizations do not plan to increase spending on information security. In fact, little is known about an organization’s motivation to invest in information security. This paper uses the Technology Acceptance Model as a basis for studying factors that might motivate organizations to invest (or not to invest) in information security. It proposes that perceived usefulness and ease of use of information security influence such investment decisions. It further proposes that seven other variables influence perceived usefulness and ease of use. They are: external environment, prior information security experiences, perceived risks of not securing information, information security budget, security planning, confidence in information security, and security awareness and training. The research proposes a model of information security investment. A Delphi study and a mail survey will be used to test it

By contrast, individuals who have heightened concerns about Internet privacy and security show less favorable attitudes towards online auction. Consistent with the attitude-intention model, attitude appears to mediates the effect of know and risk perception on intention. Research and practical implications of these results are discussed

The influence of technology, environment and user acceptance on the effectiveness of information system project selection using SEM

    Get PDF
The selection of the present information system project is difficult because of the many factors that influence it. Information system project should pay attention to the user acceptance, technology and the environment in terms of their influence on the information system project selection. The purpose of this paper is to determine how much influence user acceptance, technology and the environment have on the information system project selection. This research uses data obtained from several ministries and analyzed using SEM (Structural Equation Models). The results found that the technology and the environment affects user acceptance. Moreover, technology and environment affect the effectiveness of the information systems project selection through the mediating effect of user acceptance. User acceptance, tested by the incorporation of usefulness and ease of use, the results are more modest and in line with previous theories. Furthermore, the external environment highly impacts the information system project selection

Missing in Action: The Information System Artifact in Information Systems Adoption and Use

    Get PDF
Despite considerable research on information systems adoption and use by individuals, little is known about how the information system (IS) artifact itself affects adoption and use. Prior research has generally treated the IS artifact as a “blackbox” such that it remained peripheral to the central questions asked regarding adoption and use. This paper presents a feature-centric “IS artifact rating” scheme and shows one way in which to unravel the blackbox of the IS artifact and examine its effect on adoption and use. Implications for research and practice are also presented
