Adoption of e-business: patterns and consequences of network externalities
The paper analyzes the adoption of various e-business technologies. Strong empirical evidence is found for the existence of increasing returns to adoption due to indirect network externalities between related technologies. If a company is close to the technological frontier, its probability of adoption increases. The empirical analysis is based on more than 5,000 observations from a cross-sectional European enterprise survey conducted in June 2002. Department of Management EngineeringFirms participating in printer industries have invested their constrained resources into technology development in order to sustain their competitiveness in the industry. Considering the fast-changing market circumstances, each firm???s own investment decisions on technology portfolio may directly affect their performance.
In this study, we analyzed patent data, namely number of forward citations and technological classification data (CPC). Using this data, the technological portfolio of a specific firm can be identified, which can further help our understanding on firms??? R&D investment strategies. Number of studies mainly focused on patent class combinations of individual technology level, but portfolios of patent class at a firm level have been understudied.
In this study, we tracked the change of class composition within each firms??? technological patents??? portfolio and attempted to identify practical and theoretical implications to portfolio management. We utilized Entropy Index, Co-occurrence and cosine similarities measurements for each indicating diversification, patent scope and portfolio similarities within each patents??? classification subclasses. Additionally, performance evaluation of each portfolio is conducted using forward citation data.

Towards a theory of technological mismatch: 1 - Consumption
In this paper, the relationship between technological change and employment is analysed using private consumption as a means to do so. Technological change will create new and more consumption opportunities by means of product and process innovation. This results in changes in consumption patterns and budget shares of consumer products. As a consequence of technological change and changing tastes, the production structure will be altered and therefore, changes in (the composition) of employment are inevitable. By using a narrow classification of products as well as occupations, it is possible to analyse the dynamics of adjustment and technological change and their impact on the composition of employment in terms of occupations/skills. Furthermore, obsolescence of products and skills, caused by technological change, can be related to each other by using an input-output framework. The decrease in the (real) consumption of industrial consumer goods has for instance lead to a decrease in the employment of industrial occupations. In addition, scientific/professional occupations seems to have replaced industrial occupations between 1980 and 1990 in the Netherlands. Innovation and Technological Development of Industrial Regions Under Social and Economic Insecurity
The article is devoted to the identification of the characteristics and priorities of innovation and technological development in the industrial regions of the Russian Federation in the context of the ongoing global crisis. The authors come from the hypothesis that, in these circumstances, the strategy of innovative development of industrial regions, in order to ensure their sustainability and the creation of conditions for further growth, should be an integral part of their industrial policies and focus primarily on the modernization and improvement of technical and technological level of basic units. On the basis of the analysis of statistical data about the status of the innovation capacity in the Russian Federation, the authors have identified the root causes of the continuing backlog of advanced foreign countries by the level of innovative development (raw-material orientation of the Russian economy that enhances the technological dependence of the developed countries; insufficient financial support for innovation activities by the state; the orientation of innovation in imitation and borrowing). The necessity to take into account in the development and implementation of the socio-economic strategic regions of the Russian Federation and the close relationship between the industrial-technological and innovation component of social development is proved. In order to improve the effectiveness of regional development policies, the classification of Russian regions considering their industrial and technological specialization is proposed, the required elements and characteristics of effective innovation systems for each type of region are allocated. In the article, the proposals on measures of the state support for innovation development of industrial regions, with the aim of improving their sustainability and competitiveness in the face of geopolitical and economic uncertainty are determined. Token Finds At Pre-Pottery Neolighic ‘Ain Ghazal, Jordan A Formal And Technological Analysis
‘Ain Ghazal is a Neolithic site located near Amman, Jordan. It was excavated between 1982 and 1998 by an American-Jordanian team directed by Gary O. Rollefson, Whitman College, Walla Walla, Wa. and Zeidan Kafafi, the University of Yarmouk at Irbid, Jordan. ‘Ain Ghazal was first settled about 7250 B.C., during the so-called Pre-Pottery Neolithic B (PPNB) period. In a matter of a few centuries the village of stone houses had spread over 30 acres along the Zarqa River. During a prosperous period when the mixed economy increasingly relied on farming, ca. 7250-6000 B.C., ‘Ain Ghazal witnessed what can be termed an explosion of symbolism. The site was abandoned in the Yarmoukian period ca. 5000 BC. The volume deals with the uniquely rich and varied ‘Ain Ghazal assemblage of symbols including tokens of many shapes, animal and human figurines, modeled human skulls, plaster statues and, mural and floor paintings.A collection of 137 clay and stone tokens from the Neolithic site of ‘Ain Ghazal in Jordan was studied in terms of formal and technological characteristics. The assemblage includes spheres, cones, and other shapes that are well known from Near Eastern token collections. A visual technological classification based on surface and fabric characteristics was supplemented by petrographic and XRD studies of smaller samples of artifacts and local clay and stone raw materials. Results show some correlations between shapes and technological processes and close technological similarities among tokens recovered as groups, suggesting single episode production, use and discard.Art and Art Histor
East Texas Caddo Ceramic Sherd Database
A considerable amount of effort has been expended over the years by archaeologists in the identification, description, and classification of ancestral Caddo ceramic vessels and sherds recovered from sites across East Texas, beginning with the masterful efforts of Alex D. Krieger. These analyses have led to an appreciation of the stylistic, technological, functional, and morphological character of Caddo ceramics, as well as their age, and their role in the identification and scale of social networks of different Caddo communities in existence as early as ca. A.D. 850 to the early 19th century.
The purpose of the compilation of attribute-level data on Caddo ceramic sherds in East Texas is to build on the understandings already achieved through many years of study by numerous individuals regarding the stylistic, technological, and functional character of Caddo ceramics. This compilation is a distillation of 50+ years of the analysis and study of Caddo ceramics—particularly the quantification of the methods of decorations present on sherds from different assemblages—and a compilation that is useful for both present and future detailed studies of the sherds from ceramic vessel made by perhaps 40 or more generations of skilled Caddo potters
