Answer Set Programming Modulo `Space-Time'
We present ASP Modulo `Space-Time', a declarative representational and
computational framework to perform commonsense reasoning about regions with
both spatial and temporal components. Supported are capabilities for mixed
qualitative-quantitative reasoning, consistency checking, and inferring
compositions of space-time relations; these capabilities combine and synergise
for applications in a range of AI application areas where the processing and
interpretation of spatio-temporal data is crucial. The framework and resulting
system is the only general KR-based method for declaratively reasoning about
the dynamics of `space-time' regions as first-class objects. We present an
empirical evaluation (with scalability and robustness results), and include
diverse application examples involving interpretation and control tasks
Working Notes from the 1992 AAAI Workshop on Automating Software Design. Theme: Domain Specific Software Design
The goal of this workshop is to identify different architectural approaches to building domain-specific software design systems and to explore issues unique to domain-specific (vs. general-purpose) software design. Some general issues that cut across the particular software design domain include: (1) knowledge representation, acquisition, and maintenance; (2) specialized software design techniques; and (3) user interaction and user interface
Model Predictive Control for Signal Temporal Logic Specification
We present a mathematical programming-based method for model predictive
control of cyber-physical systems subject to signal temporal logic (STL)
specifications. We describe the use of STL to specify a wide range of
properties of these systems, including safety, response and bounded liveness.
For synthesis, we encode STL specifications as mixed integer-linear constraints
on the system variables in the optimization problem at each step of a receding
horizon control framework. We prove correctness of our algorithms, and present
experimental results for controller synthesis for building energy and climate
control
The indexed time table approach for planning and acting
A representation is discussed of symbolic temporal relations, called IxTeT, that is both powerful enough at the reasoning level for tasks such as plan generation, refinement and modification, and efficient enough for dealing with real time constraints in action monitoring and reactive planning. Such representation for dealing with time is needed in a teleoperated space robot. After a brief survey of known approaches, the proposed representation shows its computational efficiency for managing a large data base of temporal relations. Reactive planning with IxTeT is described and exemplified through the problem of mission planning and modification for a simple surveying satellite
Gathering Statistics to Aspectually Classify Sentences with a Genetic Algorithm
This paper presents a method for large corpus analysis to semantically
classify an entire clause. In particular, we use cooccurrence statistics among
similar clauses to determine the aspectual class of an input clause. The
process examines linguistic features of clauses that are relevant to aspectual
classification. A genetic algorithm determines what combinations of linguistic
features to use for this task.Comment: postscript, 9 pages, Proceedings of the Second International
