    Get PDF
[EN] This study offers a comprehensive analysis of COVID-19 research in education. A multi-methods approach was used to capture the full breadth of educational research. As such, a bibliometric analysis, structural topic modeling, and qualitative synthesis of top papers were combined. A total of 4,201 articles were retrieved from Scopus, mostly published from 2019 to 2021. In this work special attention is paid to analyzing and synthesizing findings about: (i) status of research about COVID-19 regarding frequencies, venues, publishing countries, (ii) identification of main topics in the COVID-19 research, and (iii) identification of the major themes in most cited articles and their impact on the educational community. Structural topic modeling identified three main groups of topics that related to education in general, moving to online education, or diverse topics (e.g., perceptions, inclusion, medical education, engagement and motivation, well-being, and equality). A deeper analysis of the papers that received most attention revealed that problem understanding was the dominating theme of papers, followed by challenges, impact, guidance, online migration, and tools and resources. A vast number of papers were produced. However, thoughtful, well-planned, and meaningful research was hard to conceptualize or implement, and a sense of urgency led to a deluge of research with thin contributions in a time of dire need to genuine insights.SIUniversity of Eastern Finland (UEF) including Kuopio University HospitalEuropean Commission (“Improving online and blended learning with educational data analytics” ILEDA—2021–1- BG01-KA220-HED-000031121)Academy of Finland for the project TOPEILA, Decision Number 35056

    Get PDF
This bibliometric study investigates the critical role of social support in school sports, emphasizing its impact on students' personal development and engagement. Drawing on a comprehensive analysis of 2,245 articles published from 2014 to 2024, this research identifies emerging trends, influential authors, and key publications in the field. Findings reveal that participation in school sports enhances not only physical fitness but also emotional, cognitive, and social skills, ultimately contributing to life satisfaction and academic success. The analysis highlights the significance of a supportive network—including family, peers, and educators—in fostering positive outcomes for young athletes. Despite the growing interest in this area, gaps in the literature regarding the longitudinal evolution of social support in school sports are evident, necessitating further exploration of its dynamics across diverse cultural contexts. The study also presents a keyword cluster analysis that delineates two primary themes: methodological approaches and participant characteristics, shedding light on prevailing research foci. This research underscores the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration among educators, policymakers, and researchers to prioritize social support within school sports frameworks, thereby enhancing the educational experience and promoting holistic development among students

Understanding International and Regional Partnerships for Sustainable Development Goals in Higher Education: A Focus on the Asia Pacific Region

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are universal, indivisible, and transformative objectives set by the United Nations to guide global development. Achieving these goals requires collaboration between industry, government, and academia. Higher education institutions (HEIs) play a crucial role in this process due to their contributions to research, innovation, and knowledge dissemination. Previous reviews have underscored the need for more publications and collaborations among HEIs related to SDGs both globally and regionally. However, no comprehensive review exists for the Asia Pacific region. This review aims to analyze the status and evolution of higher education for sustainable development research in the Asia Pacific, focusing on international, regional, and multi-country partnerships. A bibliometric analysis was conducted, assessing publication and citation patterns, mapping collaborative networks, and identifying thematic clusters of related research. The keywords “higher education” and “sustainable development goal OR SDG” were used to extract English publications from the Web of Science. The analysis utilized the Web of Science analyzer and VOSViewer 1.16.19, including 582 studies published from 1997 to 2022. The top three countries in the region for SDG publications were China (n=140), Australia (n=128), and India (n=67), with a total of 8,949 citations and an H-index of 42. Collaboration clusters included (a) China, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Taiwan, and UAE; (b) Malaysia, Jordan, Pakistan, and India; (c) Japan, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam; and (d) Australia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Nepal. Text co-occurrence analysis revealed four key themes: (a) innovations in education for SDG integration; (b) challenges and barriers; and (c-d) health and welfare of women and children. The evolution of research themes showed an initial focus on general SDG outcomes (e.g., health, education, poverty), shifting later to academic matters (e.g., student motivation, teaching methods). These themes reflect issues specific to developing nations in the Asia Pacific, which were not highlighted in broader global reviews. This review aims to inform policymakers, educators, and researchers by highlighting research trends, collaborative dynamics, and thematic concentrations. It offers strategic insights to enhance cross-border collaboration and the impact of SDG-focused research in the region, contributing to the advancement of sustainable development in higher education institutions

The classroom environment has undergone a fundamental shift since the era of information and communication technologies, with blended learning (BL) gaining increasing attention in recent years. In light of the limited number of studies that have reviewed the integration of BL and classroom environments in scientific publications, the present study analyzed a total of 283 publications from the WOS database. This analysis provides a comprehensive bibliometric analysis, which reveals the following key findings: Firstly, research in this area has shown progressive development, indicating its maturation over time. Secondly, Garrison emerged as the author with the highest number of citations in 67 records, while Kim stood out as the most prominent author citing Garrison. Thirdly, the top three countries and journals that have made the most significant contributions to these studies are the United States, China, and Spain, along with the journals Computers & Education, Internet and Higher Education, and the British Journal of Educational Technology. Fourthly, the most cited articles are Boelens et al. (2017), O’Flaherty et al. (2015), Abeysekera et al. (2015), Bernard et al. (2014), Thai et al. (2017), and Rasheed et al. (2020). Finally, it was not until 2008 that more keywords such as “computer-mediated communication” (related to the technological environment), “cooperative or collaborative learning” (related to the social environment), “engagement,” and “selfefficacy” (related to the cognitive environment) began to receive more scholarly attention. The research on engagement is considered to be an emerging trend

In aim to provide a general reflection on the current state of production concerning the impact of education on economic growth, we represent in this article the process and outcomes of a systematic review of the subject. Our methodology consists of identifying relevant studies based on keywords, titles, and abstracts that verify our research question: What is the state of scientific knowledge produced on the question of the existence of an impact of education on economic growth, and the incidence of this impact? Then, we limited our selection to the studies written in English or French that were published between 1990 and 2022. Our research identified 302 research papers published on Web of Science and verified our criteria. Afterward, in aim to conduct a rich descriptive analysis of the extracted data, we used VOSviewer for bibliometric analysis. In this step, we presented first a bibliometric analysis of publications output followed by a bibliometric analysis of keywords, then a bibliometric analysis of citations and publications, and finally a bibliometric analysis of bibliographic coupling. Finally, in the last step, we conducted a synthesis analysis of the publication’s output and a summary of the theoretical and empirical literature review. From our literature review, we conclude that there are two primary groups into which macroeconomic studies can be divided: growth accounting studies and growth regression studies. However, the empirical models vary depending on the factors employed as substitutes for education, the time period, and the nations involved. While the majority of studies have proven the positive and significant impact of education on economic growth, we have uncovered studies that experimentally refute this effect (Islam, 2001). As a result, the findings are inconsistent which intrigue our interest in this subject even more. However, it is the existence of mixed results concerning the impact of education on economic growth and the incidence of this impact if there is, that led to the production of a big number of studies, using more complex linear and non-linear models, and working with more recent and correct education database, to verify this theory, which makes the economy of education a dynamic research field. In summary, this research provides an important contribution by providing a rigorous and chronological review of the development of the literature concerning the economy of education to facilitate the conduction of future research.
