Low genetic but high morphological variation over more than 1000 km coastline refutes omnipresence of cryptic diversity in marine nematodes
Background: The resilience of ecosystems to negative impacts is generally higher when high gene flow, species diversity and genetic diversity are present. Population genetic studies are suitable to investigate genetic diversity and estimate gene flow between populations. Seaweed beds form a dynamic shallow water ecosystem influenced by climate change and human exploitation, as such, seaweed beds are a particularly powerful model to investigate ecosystem resilience in coastal areas. We studied the population genetic structure of the new nematode species Paracanthonchus gynodiporata associated with seaweeds in northeastern Brazil. Nematodes are generally believed to have a limited dispersal capacity because of the lack of planktonic larvae. Yet, they can drift on seaweeds, and water currents might be a natural barrier for their dispersal. Populations of P. gynodiporata were sampled over more than 1000 km coastline in regions across major oceanic currents with and without historical exploitation of seaweed. 
Results: P. gynodiporata is described in an integrative way using mitochondrial and nuclear sequences and morphological data. The 3D model of the head region shows for the first time a detailed view of the ventrosublateral teeth, a character often overlooked in older taxonomic studies of the genus. A total of 17 mitochondrial COI haplotypes were found with one haplotype representing 63 to 83% of the frequencies in each population. AMOVA showed overall little population genetic structure (F-ST = 0.05204), and no genetic subdivision between the populations under the influence of the two different water currents were found. Effects of historical seaweed exploitation on population genetic diversity were not detected. In contrast, significant differences between populations were found in morphometric characters. This discrepancy in genetic and morphological differentiation between populations across 1000 km of coastline is surprising in view of the frequently observed presence of several cryptic species at small geographical scale in other macroalgal associated nematodes. 
Conclusions: Our results show that cryptic species are not omnipresent in marine nematode species, suggesting that nematodes associated with seaweeds have been able to disperse over large distances across well-known biogeographic barriers
Structure Formation in Large Theories
Structuring theories is one of the main approaches to reduce the
combinatorial explosion associated with reasoning and exploring large theories.
In the past we developed the notion of development graphs as a means to
represent and maintain structured theories. In this paper we present a
methodology and a resulting implementation to reveal the hidden structure of
flat theories by transforming them into detailed development graphs. We review
our approach using plain TSTP-representations of MIZAR articles obtaining more
structured and also more concise theories
Bullying Roles in Changing Contexts: The Stability of Victim and Bully Roles from Primary to Secondary School
The present study was conducted to predict bullying roles over a six years time period and across contexts differing in the degree of peer hierarchies. Out of two representative data sets from primary (N = 1525) and secondary school (N = 2958), 282 children (156 boys; 126 girls) were followed up longitudinally. Self reports on bullying experiences and peer reports about social status were assessed by a structured individual interview (in primary school) and by questionnaire given classwise (in secondary school). Risk analyses showed, that only a bully role in primary school yields a risk to be sustained in secondary school. However, victims in primary school classes with a more pronounced degree of hierarchical structuring proved stable in their role while the victim role was unstable from primary school classes with low hierarchical structuring. This interaction did not apply to bully role stability. Differential characteristics of the victim and the bully role in primary school and secondary school settings are discussed.Die vorliegende Untersuchung wurde durchgeführt, um  Bullyingrollen über einen Zeitraum von sechs Jahren und Kontexte, die sich im Ausmaß der sozialen Strukturierung unterschieden, vorherzusagen. Auf der Grundlage von zwei repräsentativen Datensätzen aus der Grundschule (n= 1525) und der weiterführenden Schule (N= 2958) wurden dazu die Daten von 282 Kinder (156 Jungen, 126 Mädchen) längsschnittlich analysiert. Die Selbstberichte über Bullyingerfahrungen und Mitschülerberichte über den sozialen Status der Kinder wurden in der Grundschule durch ein strukturiertes Interview und in der weiterführenden Schule durch klassenweise Fragebogenerhebung erfasst. Riskikoanalysen zeigen, dass nur die Täterrolle in der Grundschule einen Risikofaktor für eine Täterrolle in der weiterführenden Schule darstellt. Eine Opferrolle war hingegen nur dann stabil, wenn die Opfer in Grundschulklassen mit schon ausgeprägten Dominanzstrukturen viktimisiert wurden, während  aus Grundschulklassen mit geringer hierarchischer Strukturierung keine stabile Opferrolle vorhersagbar war. Dieses Interaktionmuster gilt nicht für die Stabilität der Täterrollen. Differentielle Charakteristika der Opferrolle und der Täterrolle in der Grundschule und der weiterführenden Schule werden diskutiert
Optimization of the composition of crop collections for ex situ conservation
Many crop genetic resources collections have been established without a clearly defined conservation goal or mandate, which has resulted in collections of considerable size, unbalanced composition and high levels of duplication. Attempts to improve the composition of collections are hampered by the fact that conceptual views to optimize collection composition are very rare. An optimization strategy is proposed herein, which largely builds on the concepts of core collection and core selection. The proposed strategy relies on hierarchically structuring the crop gene pool and assigning a relative importance to each of its different components. Comparison of the resulting optimized distribution of the number of accessions with the actual distribution allows identification of under- and over-representation within a collection. Application of this strategy is illustrated by an example using potato. The proposed optimization strategy is applicable not only to individual genebanks, but also to consortia of cooperating genebanks, which makes it relevant for ongoing activities within projects that aim at sharing responsibilities among institutions on the basis of rational conservation, such as a European genebank integrated system and the global cacao genetic resources network CacaoNet
The non-codified use of Problem Structuring Methods and the need for a generic constitutive definition
Structuring and support by Alfven waves around prestellar cores
Observations of molecular clouds show the existence of starless, dense cores,
threaded by magnetic fields. Observed line widths indicate these dense
condensates to be embedded in a supersonically turbulent environment. Under
these conditions, the generation of magnetic waves is inevitable. In this
paper, we study the structure and support of a 1D plane-parallel,
self-gravitating slab, as a monochromatic, circularly polarized Alfven wave is
injected in its central plane. Dimensional analysis shows that the solution
must depend on three dimensionless parameters. To study the nonlinear,
turbulent evolution of such a slab, we use 1D high resolution numerical
simulations. For a parameter range inspired by molecular cloud observations, we
find the following. 1) A single source of energy injection is sufficient to
force persistent supersonic turbulence over several hydrostatic scale heights.
2) The time averaged spatial extension of the slab is comparable to the
extension of the stationary, analytical WKB solution. Deviations, as well as
the density substructure of the slab, depend on the wave-length of the injected
wave. 3) Energy losses are dominated by loss of Poynting-flux and increase with
increasing plasma beta. 4) Good spatial resolution is mandatory, making similar

Transport Phenomena and Structuring in Shear Flow of Suspensions near Solid Walls
In this paper we apply the lattice-Boltzmann method and an extension to
particle suspensions as introduced by Ladd et al. to study transport phenomena
and structuring effects of particles suspended in a fluid near sheared solid
walls. We find that a particle free region arises near walls, which has a width
depending on the shear rate and the particle concentration. The wall causes the
formation of parallel particle layers at low concentrations, where the number
of particles per layer decreases with increasing distance to the wall.Comment: 14 pages, 14 figure
