    Dibaryon Spectroscopy

The AdS/CFT correspondence relates dibaryons in superconformal gauge theories to holomorphic curves in Kaehler-Einstein surfaces. The degree of the holomorphic curves is proportional to the gauge theory conformal dimension of the dibaryons. Moreover, the number of holomorphic curves should match, in an appropriately defined sense, the number of dibaryons. Using AdS/CFT backgrounds built from the generalized conifolds of Gubser, Shatashvili, and Nekrasov (1999), we show that the gauge theory prediction for the dimension of dibaryonic operators does indeed match the degree of the corresponding holomorphic curves. For AdS/CFT backgrounds built from cones over del Pezzo surfaces, we are able to match the degree of the curves to the conformal dimension of dibaryons for the n'th del Pezzo surface, n=1,2,...,6. Also, for the del Pezzos and the A_k type generalized conifolds, for the dibaryons of smallest conformal dimension, we are able to match the number of holomorphic curves with the number of possible dibaryon operators from gauge theory.Comment: 30 pages, 6 figures, corrected refs; v3 typos correcte

    Tetraquark spectroscopy

A complete classification of tetraquark states in terms of the spin-flavor, color and spatial degrees of freedom was constructed. The permutational symmetry properties of both the spin-flavor and orbital parts of the quark-quark and antiquark-antiquark subsystems are discussed. This complete classification is general and model-independent, and is useful both for model-builders and experimentalists. The total wave functions are also explicitly constructed in the hypothesis of ideal mixing; this basis for tetraquark states will enable the eigenvalue problem to be solved for a definite dynamical model. This is also valid for diquark-antidiquark models, for which the basis is a subset of the one we have constructed. An evaluation of the tetraquark spectrum is obtained from the Iachello mass formula for normal mesons, here generalized to tetraquark systems. This mass formula is a generalizazion of the Gell-Mann Okubo mass formula, whose coefficients have been upgraded by means of the latest PDG data. The ground state tetraquark nonet was identified with f0(600)f_{0}(600), κ(800)\kappa(800), f0(980)f_{0}(980), a0(980)a_{0}(980). The mass splittings predicted by this mass formula are compared to the KLOE, Fermilab E791 and BES experimental data. The diquark-antidiquark limit was also studied.Comment: Invited talk at 11th International Conference on Meson-Nucleon Physics and the Structure of the Nucleon (MENU 2007), Julich, Germany, 10-14 Sep 2007. Exotics and all that

This invited contribution summarizes some of the more important aspects of exotics. We review theoretical expectations for exotic and nonexotic hybrid mesons, and briefly discuss the leading experimental candidate for an exotic, the pi_1(1600).Comment: 4 pages. Multiphoton Coincidence Spectroscopy

We extend the analysis of photon coincidence spectroscopy beyond bichromatic excitation and two-photon coincidence detection to include multichromatic excitation and multiphoton coincidence detection. Trichromatic excitation and three-photon coincidence spectroscopy are studied in detail, and we identify an observable signature of a triple resonance in an atom-cavity system.Comment: 6 page, REVTeXs, 6 Postscript figures. We extend the proposal for a detailed map between wrapped D-branes in Anti-de Sitter space and baryon-like operators in the associated dual conformal field theory provided in hep-th/0202150 to the recently formulated AdS_4 \times CP^3/ABJM correspondence. In this example, the role of the dibaryon operator of the 3-dimensional CFT is played by a D4-brane wrapping a CP^2 \subset CP^3. This topologically stable D-brane in the AdS_4 \times CP^3 is nothing but one-half of the maximal giant graviton on CP^3.Comment: 26 page

    Colloquium: Graphene spectroscopy

Spectroscopic studies of electronic phenomena in graphene are reviewed. A variety of methods and techniques are surveyed, from quasiparticle spectroscopies (tunneling, photoemission) to methods probing density and current response (infrared optics, Raman) to scanning probe nanoscopy and ultrafast pump-probe experiments. Vast complimentary information derived from these investigations is shown to highlight unusual properties of Dirac quasiparticles and many-body interaction effects in the physics of graphene.Comment: 36 pages, 16 figure
