Backtracking Spatial Pyramid Pooling (SPP)-based Image Classifier for Weakly Supervised Top-down Salient Object Detection
Top-down saliency models produce a probability map that peaks at target
locations specified by a task/goal such as object detection. They are usually
trained in a fully supervised setting involving pixel-level annotations of
objects. We propose a weakly supervised top-down saliency framework using only
binary labels that indicate the presence/absence of an object in an image.
First, the probabilistic contribution of each image region to the confidence of
a CNN-based image classifier is computed through a backtracking strategy to
produce top-down saliency. From a set of saliency maps of an image produced by
fast bottom-up saliency approaches, we select the best saliency map suitable
for the top-down task. The selected bottom-up saliency map is combined with the
top-down saliency map. Features having high combined saliency are used to train
a linear SVM classifier to estimate feature saliency. This is integrated with
combined saliency and further refined through a multi-scale
superpixel-averaging of saliency map. We evaluate the performance of the
proposed weakly supervised topdown saliency and achieve comparable performance
with fully supervised approaches. Experiments are carried out on seven
challenging datasets and quantitative results are compared with 40 closely
related approaches across 4 different applications.Comment: 14 pages, 7 figure
AnchorNet: A Weakly Supervised Network to Learn Geometry-sensitive Features For Semantic Matching
Despite significant progress of deep learning in recent years,
state-of-the-art semantic matching methods still rely on legacy features such
as SIFT or HoG. We argue that the strong invariance properties that are key to
the success of recent deep architectures on the classification task make them
unfit for dense correspondence tasks, unless a large amount of supervision is
used. In this work, we propose a deep network, termed AnchorNet, that produces
image representations that are well-suited for semantic matching. It relies on
a set of filters whose response is geometrically consistent across different
object instances, even in the presence of strong intra-class, scale, or
viewpoint variations. Trained only with weak image-level labels, the final
representation successfully captures information about the object structure and
improves results of state-of-the-art semantic matching methods such as the
deformable spatial pyramid or the proposal flow methods. We show positive
results on the cross-instance matching task where different instances of the
same object category are matched as well as on a new cross-category semantic

Pedestrian Attribute Recognition: A Survey
Recognizing pedestrian attributes is an important task in computer vision
community due to it plays an important role in video surveillance. Many
algorithms has been proposed to handle this task. The goal of this paper is to
review existing works using traditional methods or based on deep learning
networks. Firstly, we introduce the background of pedestrian attributes
recognition (PAR, for short), including the fundamental concepts of pedestrian
attributes and corresponding challenges. Secondly, we introduce existing
benchmarks, including popular datasets and evaluation criterion. Thirdly, we
analyse the concept of multi-task learning and multi-label learning, and also
explain the relations between these two learning algorithms and pedestrian
attribute recognition. We also review some popular network architectures which
have widely applied in the deep learning community. Fourthly, we analyse
popular solutions for this task, such as attributes group, part-based,
\emph{etc}. Fifthly, we shown some applications which takes pedestrian
attributes into consideration and achieve better performance. Finally, we
summarized this paper and give several possible research directions for

A Weakly Supervised Approach for Estimating Spatial Density Functions from High-Resolution Satellite Imagery
We propose a neural network component, the regional aggregation layer, that
makes it possible to train a pixel-level density estimator using only
coarse-grained density aggregates, which reflect the number of objects in an
image region. Our approach is simple to use and does not require
domain-specific assumptions about the nature of the density function. We
evaluate our approach on several synthetic datasets. In addition, we use this
approach to learn to estimate high-resolution population and housing density
from satellite imagery. In all cases, we find that our approach results in
better density estimates than a commonly used baseline. We also show how our
housing density estimator can be used to classify buildings as residential or
