[EN] This work aims to implement and evaluate an interactive educational software that helps Civil Engineering students to perform and analyze the calculations related to different Soil Mechanics laboratory tests. This experience consists of an attempt to incorporate information and communication technologies (ICTs) into the engineering teaching-learning process. The content of the program is distributed into three different modules: “Compaction test”, “Consolidation test”, and “Direct shear test”. Using vector graphics, tables, illustrative figures, animations, equations, tip buttons, and immediate correction of mistakes, the software clarifies the relationship between theoretical concepts and practical laboratory results, instructs the students in the moments of doubt, attracts their interest, and motivates them to achieve the complete data interpretation. Based on the results of an applied evaluation questionnaire, it was observed that most of the students were satisfied with the contents and functionalities of the program. The developed tool can be an inspiration for the creation of new educational software that improve the quality of education in different engineering areas.[ES] El presente trabajo pretende implementar y evaluar un software educativo interactivo que ayuda a los estudiantes de ingeniería civil a realizar y analizar los cálculos relacionados con los diferentes ensayos de laboratorio de Mecánica de Suelos. The authors would like to express gratitude to the Civil Engineering Department and to the Geotechnical Laboratory of the Federal University of Viçosa, for the great support to this research.Nalon, GH.; Barbosa, PSDA.; Nascimento, WD. The Design and Evaluation of Interactivities in a Digital Library

The US National Science Foundation has established a program to create a National Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Technology Education Digital Library (NSDL). One of the subsidiary NSDL libraries under development is the National Civil Engineering Educational Resources Library (NCERL). The first phase of NCERL is the creation and collection of digital resources in three areas of civil engineering—geotechnical (soil), rock, and water engineering (GROW). The concept of interactivities guides the design, development, and evaluation efforts of the GROW digital collection. This article describes the salient features of GROW, defines and discusses interactivities as an emerging, integral part of teaching and learning in civil engineering education. Interactivities take place at three distinct levels: the information resource, the collection, and the context. Very simply, the concept of interactivities can be defined as the emphasis on structured representations of interactive multimedia resources. Additionally, resources are designed with rich learning tasks and organized in pedagogical collections supplemented with contextual information. Preliminary evaluation of GROW-NCERL using interactivities is briefly described

Analysis On The Relationship Between Geotechnical Engineering Education, School Psychology And Wellbeing

    Get PDF
The work of geotechnical engineers has the potential to affect the physical and mental health of the people they serve. Thus, this article investigates the relationship between geotechnical engineering and wellbeing through a bibliometric analysis. A bibliometric analysis processor was used with a database of high-impact articles reported in the literature. Wellbeing refers to an individual's physical, mental, and emotional health and happiness. Geotechnical education focuses on studying soil and rock mechanics and their applications in civil engineering and construction, whereas wellbeing refers to an individual's physical, mental, and emotional state of health and happiness. However, a vital education in geotechnical engineering can lead to greater professional fulfillment and advancement opportunities, which can contribute to overall wellbeing and school psychology. Finally, It has been analyzed that wellbeing is not necessarily related to geotechnical education, but it can influence some aspects such as increased social support, sense of belonging, promote community engagement, and improved access to services
