An explanatory and predictive PLS-SEM approach to the relationship between organizational culture,organizational performance and customer loyalty: The case of health clubs
Purpose
This study aims to analyze the impact and predictive capacity of organizational culture on both customer loyalty and organizational performance in health clubs using data from managers and customers of health clubs in Spain.
Design/methodology/approach
A total of 101 managers were asked to measure organizational culture and organizational performance and 2,931 customers were asked to indicate their customer loyalty. The proposed hypotheses were tested and their predictability assessed through PLS-SEM. A composite concept was adopted to analyze the relationships between the different constructs and their indicators.
Findings
The findings suggest that organizational culture has a positive relationship with both customer loyalty and organizational performance. The four main dimensions of organizational culture that influence this relationship are, in order of significance, organizational presence, formalization, atmosphere and service-equipment. The authors’ model has a very good predictive power for both dependent variables.
Originality/value
Customer loyalty is an aspect of health clubs that can be improved. This study highlights the importance of creating a strong organizational culture in health clubs, as it enhances and predicts customer loyalty and organizational performance. Its predictability has already been tested with samples of managers and customers, with the analysis being performed from the perspective of the organization’s management and customer perceptions. Key issues on partial least squares (PLS) in operations management research: A guide to submissions
Purpose: This work aims to systematise the use of PLS as an analysis tool via a usage guide or
recommendation for researchers to help them eliminate errors when using this tool.
Design/methodology/approach: A recent literature review about PLS and discussion with experts in
the methodology.
Findings: This article considers the current situation of PLS after intense academic debate in recent years,
and summarises recommendations to properly conduct and report a research work that uses this
methodology in its analyses. We particularly focus on how to: choose the construct type; choose the
estimation technique (PLS or CB-SEM); evaluate and report the measurement model; evaluate and report
the structural model; analyse statistical power.
Research limitations: It was impossible to cover some relevant aspects in considerable detail herein:
presenting a guided example that respects all the report recommendations presented herein to act as a
practical guide for authors; does the specification or evaluation of the measurement model differ when it
deals with first-order or second-order constructs?; how are the outcomes of the constructs interpreted
with the indicators being measured with nominal measurement levels?; is the Confirmatory Composite
Analysis approach compatible with recent proposals about the Confirmatory Tetrad Analysis (CTA)?
These themes will the object of later publications.
Originality/value: We provide a check list of the information elements that must contain any article
using PLS. Our intention is for the article to act as a guide for the researchers and possible authors who
send works to the JIEM (Journal of Industrial and Engineering Management). This guide could be used by
both editors and reviewers of JIEM, or other journals in this area, to evaluate and reduce the risk of bias
(Losilla, Oliveras, Marin-Garcia & Vives, 2018) in works using PLS as an analysis procedure
EXPLANATORY ANALYSIS OF THE SAFETY LEADERSHIP AND SAFETY CLIMATE AT POWER PLANT
The purpose of this study is to examine and explain the effect of a safety leadership on safety climate in coal fired power plant. The design of this study is a survey and the data collection is cross section through a questionnaire. The unit of analysis is the employee who have experience work with at least 1 year. Mechanical determination of sample units in this study is a simple random sampling. The method of data analysis in hypothesis testing that is the Smart PLS (Partial Least Square). The results of this study indicate that direct safety leadership gives significant effect on safety climate. The practical implications of this research is useful for the management of power plant as they need to increase the role of safety leadership in the effort of increasing the safety climate especially for its communication to employee about Environment Health Safety

Safeguarding Health at the Workplace: A Study of Work Engagement, Authenticity and Subjective Wellbeing among Religious Workers
: Research in work and organizational psychology has paid little attention to religious workers, something certainly surprising as faith-based organizations play a key role in the welfare state of many countries. This research shows that religious workers in a Catholic order present a high degree of subjective wellbeing, both in terms of flourishing and satisfaction with life in general,
and a positive balance of positive and negative feelings. More specifically, this study examines the relationship between authenticity and wellbeing amongst religious workers. Survey responses from 142 religious workers in Spain were analyzed using partial least squares path modelling. Patient Satisfaction in the Spanish National Health Service: Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling
The aim of this article was to determine which key indicators influence patient satisfaction with the Spanish NHS to provide useful information for policy decision-making. A total of 33 variables for each of the 17 Spanish autonomous communities were collected from the statistical portal of the Spanish Ministry of Health, Social Services, and Equality between 2005 and 2016. A cross-sectional study was applied using Partial Least Squares to a Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM). The influence of expenditures, resource allocation, and safety were hypothesized about patient satisfaction. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and life expectancy were used as control variables. Moreover, the influence of resource allocation on use was tested. The model explained 57.1% of patient satisfaction with the Spanish NHS. It was positively influenced mainly by resource allocation and expenditures, followed by safety and life expectancy. Additionally, resources directly influenced the level of use. The number of hospital beds, hemodialysis equipment, rate of adverse drug reactions, and expenditure positively influenced patient satisfaction. In contrast, the number of posts in day hospitals, the hospital infection rate, and the percentage of pharmacy spending negatively influenced patient satisfaction
