The Northeastern Margin of the Adriatic Carbonate Platform

    Get PDF
At the end of Pliensbachian or during the Toarcian, several carbonate platforms were individualised by extensional tectonics in southern Tethys, of which the Adriatic Carbonate Platform is one. As a unique and isolated shallow marine depositional system it existed until the end of the Cretaceous. In the Late Lias, the platform margins and slopes were formed by the individualisation processes. Due to the presence of younger sedimentary cover and tectonic disruption from the Early Jurassic until the present, only small parts of the north-eastern margin and its slope are exposed at the surface. During the entire “life-span” of the platform, its NE margin and slope retained more or less the same palaeogeographic position – from western to south-eastern Slovenia, through the central part of Croatia, western and central Bosnia, northern Herzegovina and Montenegro all the way to northern Albania. The region between Zumberak in Croatia and central Bosnia was the most dynamic part of the platform margin during the Jurassic and Cretaceous. Shifts of the marginal and slope facies were recorded in Zumberak, where the platform area was progressively reduced during the period from the Lias to the Malm. At the same time, the platform was extended in central Bosnia and Montenegro. A more pronounced reduction of the platform in Cenomanian times marked the beginning of the process of disintegration. The end of the Cretaceous was also the end of the “life” of the Adriatic Carbonate Platform. It mostly became emergent, and the renewed shallow marine carbonate depositional environments in the Eocene were short-lived and lacked the previous platform characteristics, as well as the regional distribution and integrity

The subgenus Troglorhynchus Reitter, 1854 of the genus Otiorhynchus Germar, 1824 is redescribed, revised and differentiated from other subgenera of Otiorhynchus, which has the micro or anophthalmus species. T. anophthalmoides omeros Colonnelli, 2003, T. pretneri F. Solari, 1955 as well as T. celejensis G. Müller, 1924 are synonymized to T. anophthalmoides Reitter, 1914.Podrod Troglorhynchus Reitter, 1854 roda Otiorhynchus Germar, 1824 se ponovno opisuje, revidira i diferencira od ostalih podrodova roda Otiorhynchus u kojem su vrste bez ili s izuzetno malim očima. T. anophthalmoides omeros Colonnelli, 2003, T. pretneri F. Solari, 1955 kao i T. celejensis G. Müller, 1924 su sinonimizirane s T. anophthalmoides Reitter, 1914

Odvođenja i likvidacije ranjenih pripadnika Hrvatskih oružanih snaga (HOS) iz zagrebačkih bolnica u svibnju i lipnju 1945. kroz arhivsko gradivo Državnog arhiva u Zagrebu

Based on documents from the two hospitals in Zagreb, Croatia (‘Zakladna’ and ‘Sisters of Mercy’), it is possible, at least to some degree, to reconstruct what happened to the hospitalized members of the Croatian Armed Forces (HOS), most of whom were suffering from heavy injuries and were bedridden when the Yugoslav Army entered Zagreb on May 8, 1945 and found them in the hospitals. Even though contemporary historians do not have access to documents from other Croatian hospitals (because they are not available and/or not preserved) where the members of the Croatian Armed Forces were hospitalized together with soldiers from Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Slovenia, Italy and the New Siberia region, the documents from the ‘Sisters of Mercy’ hospital, currently deposited in the State Archives in Zagreb, definitely confirm previous eyewitnesses’ accounts on how the Department for the Protection of People (OZN-a) conducted massive arrests and transported these patients to the concentration camp „Prečko“ in Zagreb, Croatia. Even though there are no documents regarding the ultimate destiny of these hospitalized Croatian soldiers, the results from excavations and the reports from pathologists made in 1999 i.e. the evidence recovered from the mass grave Jazovka, in Zumberak, Croatia, proves that these wounded Croatian soldiers were mass murdered at this location, together with the hospital staff and other victims. The registration and the release documents from these two hospitals provide necessary information that could eventually, with the help of additional research and excavation of other mass graves, lead to at least a partial list of hospitalized members of the Croatian Armed Forces that were mass murdered by the members of the Yugoslav Army, the Department for the Protection of People (OZN-a) and the Corpus of People's Defense of Yugoslavia (KNOJ) and thrown into Jazovka and other mass graves

Bryological fi eld surveys in Plitvička jezera National Park and adjacent areas (Slunjčica river and Vrhovinsko polje karst fi eld) carried out in 2012 and 2013 resulted in a list of 207 species (39 liverworts and 168 mosses). Two species are reported for the fi rst time from Croatia (Ephemerum minutissimum and Pohlia annotina). Six species are included in the Red data book of European bryophytes (Buxbaumia viridis, Dicranum viride, Hamatocaulis vernicosus, Anomodon rostratus,Rhynchostegiella tenuicaulis and Taxiphyllum densifolium). The first three are listed in the Bern Convention and the EU Habitats and Species Directive as well; in addition, other species, especially Sphagnum spp. rare in SE Europe were also located in the area

Uznesenja Marijina, Rođenja Marijina i Bezgrješnoga Začeća. In this paper the local names of holidays devoted to Mary are analyzed. The analysis is based on the names for variety of St. Mary’s holiday names in the Valley of Ogulin and Modruš. Those are local names for Candlemas and Annunciation (wich people regarded as St. Mary’s holidays) as well as the local names of three major St. Mary’s holidays which are the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the Nativity of the Virgin Mary and Immaculate Conception. Other holiday names are analyzed according to their presence in analyzed local idioms. Analysis is based upon field research of St. Mary’s holiday names conducted by the author in Ogulinsko Zagorje (villages Ivanci and Luketići) in September 1993, in the town Ogulin and in Oštarije in July 1997 and in Turković Village in July 2007. These holiday names are primarily compared to the current condition in the local idiom of Croats in Nagyhajmás in Hungary, who are descendents of Croats that emigrated from Ogulin area. Secondarily they are compared to other local St. Mary’s holiday names in central Croatia, primarily in idiom of Cerovac nearby Slunj and in idiom of Krivi Put. Analysis of St. Mary’s local holiday names from Nagyhajmás is based upon field research conducted by the author in July of 2004, and the analysis of St. Mary’s local holiday names in Cerovac and Krivi Put is based upon field research conducted by the author in November 2010. In addition the names are compared to the names from Duga Resa, Karlovac and Ozalj area as well as to the names from Kompolje in Gacka Valley. Data for Kompolje local idiom are taken from Milan Kranjčević’s dictionary, data for Duga Resa and Karlovac area from Marinko Perušić’s works and data for area of Ozalj from Stjeko Težak’s work (more references can be found in literature index). On the conducted analysis it is concluded how represented and influential these holidays on the given area are

In this paper, the most recent state in the distribution of the American neophytes Conyza canadensis, C. bonariensis and C. sumatrensis (Asteraceae) in Croatia is presented. Conyza canadensis is believed to be one of the most widespread introduced species in the world. It arrived in the teritory of Croatia much before the beginning of the 19th century. A great number of new localities in Dalmatia and several new localities in the continental part of Croatia were registered in this investigation. The distribution of C. bonariensis in Croatia is limited to the Adriatic littoral, from Istria in the north to Dubrovnik region in the south. Numerous new-discovered localities of C. sumatrensis in Dalmatia are presented. Since its first finding this neophyte has become well established and is now in the phase of expanding in the Croatian littoral. C sumatrensis is a new species in the Croatian flora
