Learning to Segment and Represent Motion Primitives from Driving Data for Motion Planning Applications
Developing an intelligent vehicle which can perform human-like actions
requires the ability to learn basic driving skills from a large amount of
naturalistic driving data. The algorithms will become efficient if we could
decompose the complex driving tasks into motion primitives which represent the
elementary compositions of driving skills. Therefore, the purpose of this paper
is to segment unlabeled trajectory data into a library of motion primitives. By
applying a probabilistic inference based on an iterative
Expectation-Maximization algorithm, our method segments the collected
trajectories while learning a set of motion primitives represented by the
dynamic movement primitives. The proposed method utilizes the mutual
dependencies between the segmentation and representation of motion primitives
and the driving-specific based initial segmentation. By utilizing this mutual
dependency and the initial condition, this paper presents how we can enhance
the performance of both the segmentation and the motion primitive library
establishment. We also evaluate the applicability of the primitive
representation method to imitation learning and motion planning algorithms. The
model is trained and validated by using the driving data collected from the
Beijing Institute of Technology intelligent vehicle platform. The results show
that the proposed approach can find the proper segmentation and establish the
motion primitive library simultaneously
The DRIVE-SAFE project: signal processing and advanced information technologies for improving driving prudence and accidents
In this paper, we will talk about the Drivesafe project whose aim is creating conditions for prudent driving on highways and roadways with the purposes of reducing accidents caused by driver behavior. To achieve these primary goals, critical data is being collected from multimodal sensors (such as cameras, microphones, and other sensors) to build a unique databank on driver behavior. We are developing system and technologies for analyzing the data and automatically determining potentially dangerous situations (such as driver fatigue, distraction, etc.). Based on the findings from these studies, we will propose systems for warning the drivers and taking other precautionary measures to avoid accidents once a dangerous situation is detected. A Flexible Modeling Approach for Robust Multi-Lane Road Estimation
A robust estimation of road course and traffic lanes is an essential part of
environment perception for next generations of Advanced Driver Assistance
Systems and development of self-driving vehicles. In this paper, a flexible
method for modeling multiple lanes in a vehicle in real time is presented.
Information about traffic lanes, derived by cameras and other environmental
sensors, that is represented as features, serves as input for an iterative
expectation-maximization method to estimate a lane model. The generic and
modular concept of the approach allows to freely choose the mathematical
functions for the geometrical description of lanes. In addition to the current
measurement data, the previously estimated result as well as additional
constraints to reflect parallelism and continuity of traffic lanes, are
considered in the optimization process. As evaluation of the lane estimation
method, its performance is showcased using cubic splines for the geometric
representation of lanes in simulated scenarios and measurements recorded using
a development vehicle. In a comparison to ground truth data, robustness and
precision of the lanes estimated up to a distance of 120 m are demonstrated. As
a part of the environmental modeling, the presented method can be utilized for
longitudinal and lateral control of autonomous vehicles
