    Semiotics Analysis of Cibuntu Tourism Village Logo

    Cibuntu Tourism Village is located in Pesawahan District, Kuningan Regency, West Java. Its ancient heritage and racial landscape have made the Cibuntu Tourism Village win national and international awards in the community-based tourism category. In this study, the visual identity of Cibuntu Tourism Village was dissected and analyzed using the semiotics perspective of Roland Barthes. Data collection techniques in this study used interviews, observation and literature reviews. Through semiotics analysis it was found that the Cibuntu Tourism Village logo did not represent the characteristics of the village. Further research is needed in the form of designing visual identity with the rules of the logo with the approach of natural characteristics and the warmth of the village has made it easier for consumers to reflect on the experience of visiting this village.     Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik analis semiotika Roland Barthes dengan bertujuan untuk melakukan analisis semiotika terhadap lirik album “Selamat Datang di Ujung Dunia” karya Lomba Sihir dengan fokus pesona perjuangan sebagai cerminan identitas Kota Jakarta. Metode kualitatif deskriptif digunakan untuk menguraikan makna-makna yang terkandung dalam tanda pada lirik album. Data yang digunakan merupakan lirik dalam album, yang kemudian dianalisis menggunakan konsep semiotika denotasi dan konotasi. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa lirik dalam album ini menggambarkan berbagai aspek perjuangan yang dialami oleh masyarakat Ibu Kota dalam kehidupan sehari – hari. Album ini tidak hanya menjadi wadah untuk curhatan pribadi, namun juga cerminan dari identitas budaya dan perjuangan Kota Jakarta.     Goddes of Pantura is a photography book created by Arum Tresnaningtyas which discuss about dangdut music in the North-coast of Java. Cover works as an exciting main image representative to represent what it is inside—the book. Goddes of Pantura uses certain materials and colors to deliver its communication message. Using thinking principal, pragmatic graphic design is focused to risen up the sensitivity of a process through technique, materials, and media to be poured to the artpiece. This technique will answer how design process is, deliver a communication message and its perception, is not only about the final result of creating design, as what it presents on Goddes of Pantura book cover.     Semiotika sebagai ilmu tentang Tanda, memandang Arsitektur secara lebih utuh lewat komunikasi visual. Dimana komunikasi ini dapat menginformasikan suatu nilai yang terkandung didalamnya bahkan mendeskripsikan suatu konteks budaya atau zaman Arsitektur itu dijewantahkan. Semiotika dibagi menjadi Semiotika Signifikasi dan Komunikasi. Semiotika Signifikasi lebih berorientasi pada ranah Linguistik sedangkan Semiotika Komunikasi meliputi banyak hal yang punya keterkaitan dengan Tanda. Semiotika dalam Arsitektur adalah merupakan Bahasa Simbol yang memberi informasi kepada pengamat lewat bentuk-bentuk tertentu. Dengan demikian, maka proses pemaknaan sebuah bangunan yang ingin di sampaikan sang arsitek, akan mampu atau setidaknya dihayati oleh setiap individu pemakai/pengguna bangunan. Pemaknaan sebuah objek Arsitektural tidak hanya terbatas pada bentuk atau tampak saja tapi diharapkan akan mampu mengartikan hal yang esensial terselubung dalam bentuk yang dapat diidentifikasi melalui pengamatan yang mendalam. Arsitektur Tradisional Minahasa sebagai cermin nilai budaya tergambar dalam perwujutan bentuk, struktur, tata ruang, dan ragam hias, dimana bentuk fisik rumah tradisional walaupun tidak mengabaikan rasa keindahan (estetika), namun tetap terikat oleh nilai-nilai budaya yang berlaku dalam masyarakat.     Linguistic Expression with Referrence to Semiotic in Ulos of Wedding Ceremony of Batak Toba

    This study was deal with linguistic expression, in semiotics of ulos in wedding ceremony of batak toba. This research used qualitative method which concerned with developing explanations of experience or on data. The source of the data was taken from the ulos in wedding ceremony of batak toba, and relevant with the transcript of interviewing by three informants with some criterias, that is the most dominant population in three different surename in Tarutung, at the age of 45 to 55 years old and have the recognition from each surename. The instruments that is used in this study was tape recorder, camera, and also the book which relevant to the data. In technique of analyzing data, descriptive qualitative data analysis stage is identifying the ornament, reducing the ornament which are not relevant, classifying, interpreting, analyzing and concluding the findings. There are three kinds of ulos used in wedding ceremony of Batak Toba, they are ulos ragidup, ulos ragihotang, and ulos sadum. Each ulos have topi sokkar which explain that everything in this world have the limit and the color depend to the ceremony that is performed. In ulos ragidup, there are hatir symbolized of wealth, sigumang symbolized the hope of the giver of this ulos for the receiver to works right and efficient also, batu ni ansimun symbolizing the health, sisik ni ikan symbolizing a good life, tidy life, even in a crowded of life, and also jungkit symbolizing in having an organized life well. In ulos ragihotang there are unok-unok, symbolized be a wise person like the humus, and jungkit. In ulos sadum, there is torna where this symbol to remind the people that Batak people come from mountain

    Televisi adalah salah satu media komunikasi yang paling popular pada masyarakat di seluruh dunia. Sebagai sebuah media yang paling merakyat, televisi pun menjadi sebuah pokok perhatian yang dikaji dalam cultural studies. Dengan menggunakan analisis media iklan melalui pendekatan semiotika, peneliti akan mengkaji lebih jauh mengenai makna yang terdapat dari gambar-gambar iklan larutan penyegar cap kaki tiga. Semiotika merupakan cara pendekatan yang digunakan untuk menganalisis tanda. Untuk itulah, dalam analisis untuk membedah tanda dalam iklan Larutan Penyegar Cap Badak menggunakan model semiotika Charles sanders pierce. Sehingga makna yang didapat tidak hanya berupa makna tingkat satu semiotika milik Charles Sanders Pierce. Setelah dianalisis ternyata iklan Larutan Penyegar Cap Badak ini memiliki berbagai bentuk cara untuk mempengaruhi konsep pemikiran dari tiap calon konsumen yang melihat iklan ini. Sehingga perlu adanya kajian lebih lanjut untuk membongkar sistem yang tertata dengan rapi namun terdapat tujuan tersembunyi dibelakangya. Kata Kunci: Semiotika, Media Iklan, Larutan Penyega

    Each ad released by a company contains an "information" that the company wants to transferred to the public, in order to clarify the identity and obtain public recognition of the company. One company that has interesting advertisements to review is Tiki company advertisement that is in the field of shipping and logistics. The method used to analyze this advertisement is semiotics, by looking at the markers in the visualization of Tiki Indonesian brand advertisements. The visual elements analyzed by 3 aspects: 1) Representation Purpose; 2) Interaction Purpose; and 3) Composition Purpose. In social semiotics, these markers used to analyze the message that the designer wants to convey to the community. The constituent elements seem simple but have a message hidden in it.     Selama ini, kajian semiotika hadis terlihat kurang mempunyai greget dalam wacana studi teks. Kebanyakan sarjana yang berkecimpung di dalamnya lebih suka membawa semiotika untuk membaca tanda-tanda yang tercantum dalam ayat suci al-Qur’an. Padahal, hadis Nabi sendiri sebagai sumber kedua setelah al-Qur’an memuat tanda-tanda yang sebenarnya juga menarik untuk diungkap dengan semiotika. Lewat tulisan ini, penulis menemukan paling tidak terdapat tiga argumentasi penggunaan semiotika dalam pemahaman hadis, yaitu pertama, ‘semiotika’ ternyata telah digunakan oleh sarjana klasik dalam memahami hadis; kedua, hadis adalah bahasa dan bahasa merupakan tanda; dan ketiga, sebagai pengembangan studi hadis di era sekarang

    The role of Javanese language is now gradually replaced by Indonesian or even English language as a result of a process called language shift. While Javanese language is offered in Central Java schools as local subject, the policy is insufficient to increase the popularity of Javanese language especially among young users. The unpopularity of Javanese language poses a threat because the less popular a language becomes among its users, the more susceptible it is to become extinct since at any time the users may cease to use the language and to pass it to the next generation. This paper shows a study of place names in the City of Semarang and its importance to Javanese language. Place names in the City of Semarang which are often written in local language provide a means to vitalize Javanese language as they inform people of the past inhabitants, their culture, their way of life, and their unique cultural wisdoms. Knowing the meaning and origin of place names in the City of Semarang either through its history or legend attached to it helps to instil the language used for the names as it creates bond between the people and the place they live in

    LANGUAGE FORM USED IN EFL COURSEBOOK “PASSPORT TO THE WORLD”

    Published EFL coursebooks are normally written by experienced and well- qualified peopleand the material contained in them is usually carrefully tested in pillot studies in actualteaching situations before publication. Todays, many EFL coursebooks in the market are written by novice Authors and unreputable publishers. If the coursebooks are not carefullyselected by EFL teachers, they will become good servants but poor masters in EFLclassroom. This study aimes at describing language form and language use used in an EFL textbook” Entittled” When English Rings the Bell” based on based on Cunningsworth (1984) clasification. This Study is a descriptive study. The source of data were two intialcahpters taken from the EFL textbook entitled: When English Rings the Bell” published in 2015. The result of the study shows that there 4 kinds of the language forms presented inthe book. They are: 1). Phonology: the producton of individual sounds, stress, rhytm andintonation. 2) Grammar: Morphology and Syntax; 3) Vocabulary (Lexis); and 4)Discourse: sequence of sentences. It is concluded that the Outhor of the EFL text bookpresented language form of Englis as suggested by Cuningsworth. Therofore, it could be said that, the book could be used as a source of study
