    Currency devaluation-induced inflation, university academic staff research output and coping strategies

    Nigerian university academic staff are exposed to hostile economic environment of currency devaluation-induced inflation, which poses as a challenge to their ability to contribute to research and development. This study seeks to investigate how currency devaluation-induced inflation influences research output of Nigerian university academic staff and the coping strategies often employed by them. Through the use of sequential explanatory mixed method research design, with quantitative data obtained from 413 academic staff in 6 Nigerian universities; and qualitative data from documents and interviewee, the study found that as Naira value declines, academic research output declines in resonance. The study also found that academic staff employ diverse economic coping strategies for personal and research output mitigation. The study concludes that currency devaluation-induced inflation inimically affects academic staff research output, and despite adopted coping mechanism, none is significantly effective. The study recommends autochthonous corrective and mitigating pathways

    Assessment of stakeholders' perceptions on the adoption of artificial intelligence in academic writing

    While the development of artificial intelligence (AI) tools for academic writing continues to evolve alongside rapid technological advancement, ethical questions have arisen about their adoption. To try and answer these questions, the study reported in this article investigated the perceptions of some education stakeholders about the adoption of AI in academic writing, highlighting its practices, principles, and benefits. A mixed methods design was adopted. The study was anchored on Davis's technology acceptance model. Ten multiple-choice questions (r=0.73) and one open-ended question were administered to participants at the workshop on adopting AI. The participants were purposively sampled from members of an association. The collected data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics and thematic analysis. About 51.5% of the participants were male, and 48.5% were female. Participants' results revealed a mean score of 28.09, a median of 30, and a range of 5 to 50. Participants suggested incorporating artificial intelligence into academic writing due to its inherent benefits while adhering strictly to its usage principles

    The project entitled Open Glottic Total Slow Breathing Out (ELTGOL) as a physiotherapeutic treatment in children with acute bronchitis aims to determine the efficacy of this technique in improving respiratory function in children with this pathology. It is a retrospective literature review with a mixed approach. It rigorously compiles and analyzes information from multiple studies on the physiological effects and benefits of ELTGOL in treating acute bronchitis in children. A literature search was conducted in PEDro, Dialnet, Elsevier, Google Scholar, LILACS, Medigraphic, PubMed, Redalyc, ResearchGate, SciELO, Science Direct, Scopus, and Scispace. The sample consisted of 25 articles that met the inclusion criteria, which were evaluated with the PEDro scale. The results of this review indicate that ELTGOL improves the quality of life of children with acute bronchitis since there is a reduction in bronchial obstruction due to a greater elimination of secretions. It is concluded that ELTGOL is a technique that, when correctly applied, is an excellent complementary alternative to the conventional treatment of pediatric acute bronchitis since it reduces the duration of hospitalization and the recurrence of the disease.El proyecto titulado Espiración lenta total a glotis abierta (ELTGOL) como tratamiento fisioterapéutico en niños con bronquitis aguda, tiene como objetivo analizar la efectividad de esta técnica para mejorar la función respiratoria en niños con dicha patología. Es una revisión bibliográfica retrospectiva de enfoque mixto, que recopila y analiza rigurosamente información de múltiples estudios sobre los efectos fisiológicos y beneficios de la ELTGOL en el tratamiento de la bronquitis aguda infantil. Se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica en PEDro, Dialnet, Elsevier, Google Scholar, LILACS, Medigraphic, PubMed, Redalyc, ResearchGate, SciELO, Science Direct, Scopus, y en Scispace. La muestra la conformaron 25 artículos que cumplían los criterios de inclusión, mismos que fueron evaluados con la escala PEDro. Los resultados de esta revisión indican que ELTGOL mejora la calidad de vida de los niños con bronquitis aguda, ya que hay reducción de la obstrucción bronquial debido a una mayor eliminación de secreciones. Se concluye que ELTGOL es una técnica que aplicada correctamente es una buena alternativa de complemento al tratamiento convencional de la bronquitis aguda pediátrica, pues disminuye la duración de la hospitalización y la recurrencia de la enfermedad.Universidad Nacional de Chimborazo, Ecuador

    Employ traditional tales to Motivate English Reading Comprehension in Seventh-Grade Students at Jacinto Collahuazo School.Este proyecto de investigación se desarrolló con el objetivo principal de motivar la comprensión lectora mediante el uso de cuentos tradicionales entre los alumnos de séptimo grado de la Unidad Educativa “Jacinto Collahuazo”, ubicada en la ciudad de Otavalo, provincia de Imbabura. El objetivo general de este proyecto era utilizar los cuentos tradicionales, en particular los mitos y leyendas locales más conocidos, como recurso y como estrategia motivacional para enseñar y fortalecer la misma. Esta investigación se basó en un enfoque mixto que utilizó métodos cuantitativos y cualitativos. Se utilizaron dos instrumentos específicos: una encuesta y entrevista. La encuesta se dirigió a los beneficiarios directos, los alumnos de séptimo grado de la institución, y las entrevistas se dirigieron a los profesores de inglés con el fin de recopilar información relevante y su punto de vista para identificar los recursos utilizados por los profesores para cubrir la comprensión lectora en los alumnos de este nivel. A través del análisis de estos, se identificó una presencia limitada de recursos asociados con la cultura en el aula, lo que ha dificultado el desarrollo adecuado de la comprensión lectora en inglés. Como resultado, se creó una guía didáctica basada en cuentos tradicionales, con varias actividades atractivas y educativas destinadas a motivar la comprensión lectora para el nivel A1, así como el vocabulario, la gramática y la creatividad, lo que permitirá a los alumnos mantenerse en contacto con la cultura y así adquirir el inglés de una manera divertida.Licenciatur

    Applying generative artificial intelligence applications for academic research on firms’ nonlinear internationalization

    Purpose: This study aims to critically evaluate the applicability of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools for academic research in international business (IB), specifically focusing on the topic of firms’ nonlinear internationalization. It assesses these tools’ key performance dimensions: correctness, hallucinations and thoroughness. Design/methodology/approach: This research adopts an exploratory approach, examining a comprehensive set of GenAI tools: eight chatbots and four AI-driven applications designed for academic purposes. The evaluation focuses on the capabilities and limitations of these tools in generating accurate research-related content for IB scholars. Findings: This study finds that while GenAI tools capture some aspects of nonlinear internationalization, they often produce partially accurate and/or biased results. Common issues include providing fictitious sources, incorrect publication data and vague or incorrect answers. Thus, substantial development is still needed for GenAI tools to become reliable for scientific research. Practical implications: Researchers should use GenAI tools with caution, verifying the accuracy of generated content and citations independently. A cautious approach is crucial to maintain the integrity and quality of academic research. Social implications: This study raises awareness about ethical and practical challenges of using AI in academia, including issues related to plagiarism and misinformation. It underscores the importance of critical evaluation when using GenAI tools for research. Originality/value: This paper contributes to the emerging literature on the role of GenAI in academic research by providing a critical assessment of the usability and limitations of current tools in studying complex IB phenomena. By using nonlinear internationalization as an example, it demonstrates how GenAI may support or hinder IB scholarship.Publishers versio

    Efectividad del entrenamiento muscular respiratorio en pacientes post -COVID-19.

    The present project is entitled “Effectiveness of respiratory muscle training in post-COVID-19 patients”, since according to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of people infected with this disease reached 30.907.717 in the world until September 2020. On the other hand, many patients recovered from COVID-19 have persistent respiratory sequelae such as difficulty in breathing and weakness of the respiratory muscles. For this reason, the objective was to analyze the effectiveness of this training in the population aged 35 to 45 years, who were treated on an outpatient basis. This is a systematic review that synthesizes the main findings of the literature published between 2019 and 2023. Thirty articles of good methodological quality that met eligibility criteria were included. The result are somewhat contradictory, some authors found significant improvements in respiratory functional capacity after the intervention, while others found no changes. Nevertheless, it can be concluded that this type of training is effective in improving parameters such as forced vital capacity, maximal expiratory volume, and maximal inspiratory and expiratory pressures. The data show the benefit of this therapy in post-COVID-19 pulmonary rehabilitation in this ambulatory age group, in a period of 6 to 8 weeks with personalized progressive exercises.El presente proyecto se titula “Efectividad del entrenamiento muscular respiratorio en pacientes post-COVID-19”, dado que según la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), la cantidad de personas contagiadas con esta enfermedad llegó a 30.907.717 en el mundo hasta el mes de septiembre del 2020. Por otro lado, numerosos pacientes recuperados de COVID-19 presentan secuelas respiratorias persistentes como dificultad para respirar y debilidad de los músculos respiratorios. Por tal motivo, se planteó como objetivo analizar la efectividad de este entrenamiento en la población comprendida entre los 35 a 45 años, que fueron tratados de forma ambulatoria. Es una revisión sistemática que sintetiza los principales hallazgos de la literatura publicada entre 2019 y 2023. Se incluyeron 30 artículos de buena calidad metodológica que cumplían criterios de elegibilidad. Los resultados son algo contradictorios, algunos autores encontraron mejorías significativas en capacidad funcional respiratoria tras la intervención, mientras que otros no hallaron cambios. No obstante, se puede concluir que es efectivo este tipo de entrenamiento para mejorar parámetros como capacidad vital forzada, volumen espiratorio máximo, y presiones inspiratoria y espiratoria máxima. Los datos evidencian el beneficio de esta terapia en la rehabilitación pulmonar post-COVID-19 en este grupo etario ambulatorio, en un periodo de 6 a 8 semanas con ejercicios progresivos personalizados.Universidad Nacional de Chimboraz
