Learning from Multi-View Multi-Way Data via Structural Factorization Machines
Real-world relations among entities can often be observed and determined by
different perspectives/views. For example, the decision made by a user on
whether to adopt an item relies on multiple aspects such as the contextual
information of the decision, the item's attributes, the user's profile and the
reviews given by other users. Different views may exhibit multi-way
interactions among entities and provide complementary information. In this
paper, we introduce a multi-tensor-based approach that can preserve the
underlying structure of multi-view data in a generic predictive model.
Specifically, we propose structural factorization machines (SFMs) that learn
the common latent spaces shared by multi-view tensors and automatically adjust
the importance of each view in the predictive model. Furthermore, the
complexity of SFMs is linear in the number of parameters, which make SFMs
suitable to large-scale problems. Extensive experiments on real-world datasets
demonstrate that the proposed SFMs outperform several state-of-the-art methods
in terms of prediction accuracy and computational cost.Comment: 10 page
MLI: An API for Distributed Machine Learning
MLI is an Application Programming Interface designed to address the
challenges of building Machine Learn- ing algorithms in a distributed setting
based on data-centric computing. Its primary goal is to simplify the
development of high-performance, scalable, distributed algorithms. Our initial
results show that, relative to existing systems, this interface can be used to
build distributed implementations of a wide variety of common Machine Learning
algorithms with minimal complexity and highly competitive performance and
scalability
Relational Collaborative Filtering:Modeling Multiple Item Relations for Recommendation
Existing item-based collaborative filtering (ICF) methods leverage only the
relation of collaborative similarity. Nevertheless, there exist multiple
relations between items in real-world scenarios. Distinct from the
collaborative similarity that implies co-interact patterns from the user
perspective, these relations reveal fine-grained knowledge on items from
different perspectives of meta-data, functionality, etc. However, how to
incorporate multiple item relations is less explored in recommendation
research. In this work, we propose Relational Collaborative Filtering (RCF), a
general framework to exploit multiple relations between items in recommender
system. We find that both the relation type and the relation value are crucial
in inferring user preference. To this end, we develop a two-level hierarchical
attention mechanism to model user preference. The first-level attention
discriminates which types of relations are more important, and the second-level
attention considers the specific relation values to estimate the contribution
of a historical item in recommending the target item. To make the item
embeddings be reflective of the relational structure between items, we further
formulate a task to preserve the item relations, and jointly train it with the
recommendation task of preference modeling. Empirical results on two real
datasets demonstrate the strong performance of RCF. Furthermore, we also
conduct qualitative analyses to show the benefits of explanations brought by
the modeling of multiple item relations
