Structural stability research council: proceedings 1976

One of the purposes of the Council is to maintain a forum where problems related to the design and behavior of columns and other compression elements in metal structures can be presented for evaluation and discussion. The Annual Technical Session provides an opportunity to carry out this function. The 1976 Annual Technical Session was held on March 2 and 3 at the SheratonBiltmore Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. Fifty-five persons attended the session and nineteen papers were delivered. A panel discussion on New Ideas on Stability of Multistory Buildings was held in the evening of March 2, 1976. the panelists were D. Ruby, J. Springfield and W. J. LeMessurier. The moderator was J. S. B. Iffland. In conjunction with the Technical Session, an Annual Business Meeting was held for the purpose of electing new members, and to discuss financial and other business matters. Summaries of the technical papers, the panel discussion and minutes of the business meeting are recorded in the following pages. The attendance list is also included

Eighty-five persons attended the Session and twenty-seven papers were delivered. A panel discussion on Stability of Space Frame Structures was held in the evening of April 24, 1979. The panelists were R. S. Loomis, D. T. Wright, and E. P. Becker. The moderator was J. L. Durkee. In conjunction with the Technical Session, an Annual Business Meeting was held for the purpose of electing new officers and members, and discuss financial and other business matters. The Role of Counterparty Risk in CHAPS Following the Collapse of Lehman Brothers

We study the impact of the global financial crisis on CHAPS, the United Kingdom's large-value wholesale payments system, over the period 2006-2009. Payments data show that in the two months following the Lehman Brothers failure, banks did, on average, make payments at a slower pace than before the failure. We show that this slowdown is related to concerns about counterparty default risk, thereby identifying a new channel through which counterparty risk manifests itself in financial markets

Das Institute for Monetary and Financial Stability (IMFS) ist ein wissenschaftliches Zentrum der Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main. Das IMFS dient der Umsetzung des Projekts Währungs- und Finanzstabilität (monetary and financial stability), das von der Stiftung Geld und Währung getragen wird. Aufgabe des Institute for Monetary and Financial Stability (IMFS) ist die wirtschafts- und rechtswissenschaftliche Forschung sowie die wirtschaftspolitische und rechtliche Beratung auf dem Gebiet des Geld-, Währungs- und Finanzwesens. Besonderes Anliegen ist die Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Meinungsaustauschs durch Veranstaltungen und Diskussionsforen mit nationaler und internationaler Beteiligung. Dabei soll insbesondere der Wissenstransfer in die Welt der Kreditinstitute und der Zentralbanken sowie der politischen Entscheidungsträger intensiviert werden. More Than One Step to Financial Stability

Visiting Scholar Garry Schinasi examines the European proposals for the creation of both a European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB) to oversee macroprudential regulation and a European System of Financial Supervision (ESFS) to strengthen microprudential supervision. He argues that structural vulnerabilities of this regulatory framework need to be addressed to ensure that the early-warning systems will be adequate to avoid future crises. Specifically, Schinasi points to the fact that the ESRB lacks binding powers to enforce regulation as well as the lack of a legislative framework to resolve the insolvency of systemically important financial institutions (SIFIs).
