Podcasts as a Learning Adjunct in Nurse Anesthesia Education
Educational approaches are constantly evolving due to of influences from technology and improvements in the resources that are available to educators as well as learners. Current literature suggests that utilizing podcasts in addition to conventional educational methods contributes to a higher level of satisfaction among learners. The goal of this translational research project was to provide student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNAs) with educational podcasts as an adjunct to their traditional learning process and then measure their satisfaction after listening to the podcasts. A series of six educational podcasts were recorded and made available on From the Head of the Bed, which is a free podcast platform for the anesthesia community that is available to Apple, Android, Spotify, or Rich Site Summary (RSS) users. The intervention of using educational podcasts was intended to supplement and reinforce customary learning practices in nurse anesthesia education. A post-intervention anonymous online survey was administered to the SRNAs at Marian University. A mixed methods study design was developed to assess the satisfaction of the educational podcasts
Podcasts as a Learning Adjunct in Nurse Anesthesia Education
Educational techniques are constantly evolving because of influences from technology and improvements in the resources that are available to educators as well as learners. An educational adjunct, such as a podcast, may help students study by listening and using repetition as a way to strengthen previously learned concepts. The intervention of using educational podcasts was intended to supplement and reinforce traditional learning practices in nurse anesthesia education. A mixed methods study design was developed to assess the qualities of the learners as well as their satisfaction with the educational podcasts. A post-intervention anonymous online survey was administered to the SRNAs at Marian University. The results of this project provide additional support for the value of podcasts as a learning adjunct for SRNAs
Cuestionario de satisfacción con podcasts educativos
Student satisfaction with podcasts is frequently used as an indicator of the effectiveness of educational podcasting. This aspect has usually been assessed through surveys or interviews in descriptive studies, but no standard questionnaire exists that can be used to compare results. The main aim of this study was to present the Student Satisfaction with Educational Podcasts Questionnaire (SSEPQ). The SSEPQ consists of 10 items that are scored on a Likert-type scale. The items address the opinions of students on content adequacy, ease of use, usefulness, and the benefits of podcasts for learning. 3-5 minute podcasts were assessed as a supplementary tool within the research methods and statistics course of their psychology undergraduate degree. Confirmatory factor analysis with cross-validation showed a one-factor structure, supporting the use of the total score as a global index of student satisfaction with podcasts. The results suggest that there is a high level of satisfaction with podcasts as a tool to improve learning. The questionnaire is a brief and simple tool that can provide lecturers with direct feedback from their students, and may prove useful in improving the teaching-learning process.
Introduction: Podcasting has emerged as an easily accessible and user-friendly educational resource, utilized by educators to enhance the delivery of knowledge and academic content. Objectives: Analyze the use of a collection of podcasts - Xpódcast - in nursing degree teaching through students' consumption patterns and the satisfaction with this resource. Methodology: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on a sample of 130 students who completed a questionnaire that included sociodemographic questions, inquiries about podcast playback, and the Educational Podcast Satisfaction Questionnaire (SSEPQ). Results: The results showed that, overall, students were highly satisfied with the implementation of Xpódcast in the course (35.94 points on the SSEPQ scale), with all items rated above 3.4 points on average. There were gender differences regarding the location (p=0,042) and time of day (p=0.039) chosen by men and women for podcast playback. Conclusion: The evidence obtained positions podcasting as an effective academic tool for knowledge transmission. Its use and ubiquity facilitate the reinforcement of educational content that is taught in traditional classroom settings.
Development and Psychometric Properties of the Questionnaire for Assessing Educational Podcasts (QAEP).
The aim of this research was to develop and validate the Questionnaire for Assessing
Educational Podcasts (QAEP), an instrument designed to gather students’ views about
four dimensions of educational podcasts: access and use, design and structure, content
adequacy, and value as an aid to learning. In study 1 we gathered validity evidence
based on test content by asking a panel of experts to rate the clarity and relevance
of items. Study 2 examined the psychometric properties of the QAEP, including
confirmatory factor analysis with cross-validation to test the factor structure of the
questionnaire, as well as item and reliability analysis. The results from study 1 showed
that the experts considered the items to be clearly worded and relevant in terms of
their content. The results from study 2 showed a factor structure consistent with the
underlying dimensions, as well as configural and metric invariance across groups. The
item analysis and internal consistency for scores on each factor and for total scores
were also satisfactory. The scores obtained on the QAEP provide teachers with direct
student feedback and highlight those aspects that need to be enhanced in order to
improve the teaching/learning process. The research reported in this paper was supported by a Teaching Innovation Project (PIE17-012), funded by the University of Malaga

A novel approach for prognosis of lithium-ion battery based on geometrical features and data-driven model
Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries are widely used in such devices as today’s electrical vehicles, consumer electronics, and unmanned aerial vehicles, and will play a key role in the future. Unexpected Li-ion battery abnormities may result in serious inconvenience and enormous replacement costs. Thus, the diagnostic and prognostic methods play important roles in battery replacement scheduling, maintenance strategy development, and battery failure precaution, However, many published methods are unsuitable for both battery capacity and end-of-discharge. In this paper, a hybrid ensemble approach, integrating k-fold cross validation (k-CV) and genetic algorithm with back-propagation neural network (GA-BPNN), is proposed for capacity and end-of-discharge of Li-ion battery prognostics combined with geometrical features. Geometrical features extracted from charge-discharge cycles of Li-ion batteries are set as the inputs of the neural network. K-fold cross validation is introduced to determine the number of BPNN hidden layer neurons, genetic algorithm is used to initialize and optimize the connection weights and thresholds of BPNN. By the critical geometrical feature extraction and the ensemble BPNN model with k-fold cross validation and genetic algorithm, accurate battery capacity and end-of discharge are accomplished, making the proposed model can potentially be used for real-time estimate for the conditions given in this article. The performance of the proposed approach is demonstrated by using actual Li-ion battery data, which is supplied by the NASA Ames Research Center database
