Magnetic Phase Diagram of Ca2-xSrxRuO4 Governed by Structural Distortions
We constructed, by the first-principles calculations, a magnetic phase
diagram of SrRuO in the space spanned by structural distortions. Our
phase diagram can qualitatively explain the experimental one for
CaSrRuO. We found that the rotation and the tilting of RuO
octahedron are responsible for the ferro- and antiferro-magnetism,
respectively, while the flattening of RuO is the key factor to stabilize
those magnetic ground states. Our results imply that the magnetic and the
structural instabilities in SrRuO are closely correlated cooperatively
rather than competitively.Comment: 3 figures; accepted by PRB as rapid communicatio
Unconventional superconductivity and magnetism in SrRuO and related materials
We review the normal and superconducting state properties of the
unconventional triplet superconductor SrRuO with an emphasis on the
analysis of the magnetic susceptibility and the role played by strong
electronic correlations. In particular, we show that the magnetic activity
arises from the itinerant electrons in the Ru -orbitals and a strong
magnetic anisotropy occurs () due to spin-orbit
coupling. The latter results mainly from different values of the -factor for
the transverse and longitudinal components of the spin susceptibility (i.e. the
matrix elements differ). Most importantly, this anisotropy and the presence of
incommensurate antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic fluctuations have strong
consequences for the symmetry of the superconducting order parameter. In
particular, reviewing spin fluctuation-induced Cooper-pairing scenario in
application to SrRuO we show how p-wave Cooper-pairing with line nodes
between neighboring RuO-planes may occur.
We also discuss the open issues in SrRuO like the influence of
magnetic and non-magnetic impurities on the superconducting and normal state of
SrRuO. It is clear that the physics of triplet superconductivity in
SrRuO is still far from being understood completely and remains to be
analyzed more in more detail. It is of interest to apply the theory also to
superconductivity in heavy-fermion systems exhibiting spin fluctuations.Comment: short review article. Annalen der Physik, vol. 13 (2004), to be

Microscopic calculation of the phonon dynamics of SrRuO compared with LaCuO
The phonon dynamics of the low-temperature superconductor SrRuO
is calculated quantitatively in linear response theory and compared with the
structurally isomorphic high-temperature superconductor LaCuO. Our
calculation corrects for a typical deficit of LDA-based calculations which
always predict a too large electronic -dispersion insufficient to
describe the c-axis response in the real materials. With a more realistic
computation of the electronic band structure the frequency and wavevector
dependent irreducible polarization part of the density response function is
determined and used for adiabatic and nonadiabatic phonon calculations. Our
analysis for SrRuO reveals important differences from the lattice
dynamics of - and -doped cuprates. Consistent with experimental evidence
from inelastic neutron scattering the anomalous doping related softening of the
strongly coupling high-frequency oxygen bond-stretching modes (OBSM) which is
generic for the cuprate superconductors is largely suppressed or completely
absent, respectively, depending on the actual value of the on-site Coulomb
repulsion of the Ru4d orbitals. Also the presence of a characteristic
-mode with a very steep dispersion coupling strongly with the
electrons is missing in SrRuO. Moreover, we evaluate the
possibility of a phonon-plasmon scenario for SrRuO which has been
shown recently to be realistic for LaCuO. In contrast to
LaCuO in SrRuO the very low lying plasmons are
overdamped along the c-axis.Comment: 30 pages, 16 figures, 4 tables, 33 reference
Superconducting pairing in SrRuO from weak to intermediate coupling
The unconventional superconductivity in SrRuO continues to attract
considerable interest. While many measurements can be interpreted on the basis
of chiral -wave pairing with intriguing topological character, a number of
exceptions hinder an unambiguous verification of such pairing. The pairing
mechanism also remains under debate. In this paper, with effects of the sizable
spin-orbit coupling accounted for, we reexamine the superconducting
instabilities in SrRuO through systematic microscopic analysis within
random phase approximation. Our calculations show that the odd-parity -wave
pairing is favored in the regime of extremely weak interactions, but that
highly anisotropic even-parity pairings become most leading over a broad range
of stronger interactions. These results could shed light on the nature of the
enigmatic superconductivity in SrRuO.Comment: 5.5 pages + supplemental materials. Minor edits. Published versio
