    Warranty Data Analysis: A Review

    Warranty claims and supplementary data contain useful information about product quality and reliability. Analysing such data can therefore be of benefit to manufacturers in identifying early warnings of abnormalities in their products, providing useful information about failure modes to aid design modification, estimating product reliability for deciding on warranty policy and forecasting future warranty claims needed for preparing fiscal plans. In the last two decades, considerable research has been conducted in warranty data analysis (WDA) from several different perspectives. This article attempts to summarise and review the research and developments in WDA with emphasis on models, methods and applications. It concludes with a brief discussion on current practices and possible future trends in WDA

    Workshop Review: Timescapes Secondary Analysis Workshop

    The Timescapes Workshops were offered as three, one day events held around the UK for researchers and practitioners to learn about and interact with the Timescapes Archive. This archive forms an integral part of a five year ESRC qualitative longitudinal study which explores and documents the changing nature of personal and family relationships. The workshop provided a forum from which to explore the purpose and value of archiving qualitative data sets for future (secondary use). Issues of ownership and consent were central to many of the discussion which took place throughout the day. In addition, the practical ‘hands-on’ session with the archive raised issues about the skill of archiving for future use as well as the optimal functionality and usability of an archive for secondary analysis. This workshop provided a useful addition to the training needs increasingly required by qualitative researchers where archiving for secondary use is now an important consideration within the design and dissemination phases of research

    Review of hard scattering and jet analysis

    A review of hard-scattering and jet analysis in p-p and heavy ion collisions at RHIC is presented in the context of earlier work at the CERN ISR in the 1970's which utilized inclusive single or pairs of hadrons to establish that high transverse momentum particles in p-p collisions are produced from states with two roughly back-to-back jets which are the result of scattering of constituents of the nucleons as described by Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), which was developed during the course of those measurements. These techniques have been used extensively and further developed at RHIC since they are the only practical method to study hard-scattering and jet phenomena in Au+Au central collisions at RHIC energies.Comment: 41 pages, 33 figures, Proceedings of the International Workshop on Correlations and Fluctuations in Relativistic Nuclear Collisions, July 7-9, 2006, Florence, Italy. In order to start using EEG data we need not only EEG apparatus, but also some analytical tools and skills to understand what our data mean. This article describes several classical analytical tools and also new one which appeared only several years ago.     Operations Management Curricula: Literature Review and Analysis

    A review and analysis of studies on the interface between Operations Management (OM) academicians and industry practitioners indicate the existence of a persistent gap between what is being taught and what is relevant to practitioners in their daily jobs. The majority of practitioner studies have been directed at upper management levels, yet academia typically educates students for entry level or management trainee (undergraduate) and mid-management (MBA) positions. A recurring finding was that academicians prefer to teach quantitative techniques while practitioners favor qualitative concepts. The OM curricula literature shows some disagreements between academicians concerning subject matter, and a wide variety of teaching opinions. This paper provides an extensive analytical review of OM curricula literature along with their respective authors’ conclusions. From this analysis we suggest a customer-focused business plan to close the gap between industry and academia. This plan can be modified to account for faculty teaching and research interests, local industry requirements and institution specific factors such as class sizes and resources
