Low-Rank Discriminative Least Squares Regression for Image Classification
Latest least squares regression (LSR) methods mainly try to learn slack
regression targets to replace strict zero-one labels. However, the difference
of intra-class targets can also be highlighted when enlarging the distance
between different classes, and roughly persuing relaxed targets may lead to the
problem of overfitting. To solve above problems, we propose a low-rank
discriminative least squares regression model (LRDLSR) for multi-class image
classification. Specifically, LRDLSR class-wisely imposes low-rank constraint
on the intra-class regression targets to encourage its compactness and
similarity. Moreover, LRDLSR introduces an additional regularization term on
the learned targets to avoid the problem of overfitting. These two improvements
are helpful to learn a more discriminative projection for regression and thus
achieving better classification performance. Experimental results over a range
of image databases demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed LRDLSR method
On The Effect of Hyperedge Weights On Hypergraph Learning
Hypergraph is a powerful representation in several computer vision, machine
learning and pattern recognition problems. In the last decade, many researchers
have been keen to develop different hypergraph models. In contrast, no much
attention has been paid to the design of hyperedge weights. However, many
studies on pairwise graphs show that the choice of edge weight can
significantly influence the performances of such graph algorithms. We argue
that this also applies to hypegraphs. In this paper, we empirically discuss the
influence of hyperedge weight on hypegraph learning via proposing three novel
hyperedge weights from the perspectives of geometry, multivariate statistical
analysis and linear regression. Extensive experiments on ORL, COIL20, JAFFE,
Sheffield, Scene15 and Caltech256 databases verify our hypothesis. Similar to
graph learning, several representative hyperedge weighting schemes can be
concluded by our experimental studies. Moreover, the experiments also
demonstrate that the combinations of such weighting schemes and conventional
hypergraph models can get very promising classification and clustering
performances in comparison with some recent state-of-the-art algorithms
Multi-task Image Classification via Collaborative, Hierarchical Spike-and-Slab Priors
Promising results have been achieved in image classification problems by
exploiting the discriminative power of sparse representations for
classification (SRC). Recently, it has been shown that the use of
\emph{class-specific} spike-and-slab priors in conjunction with the
class-specific dictionaries from SRC is particularly effective in low training
scenarios. As a logical extension, we build on this framework for multitask
scenarios, wherein multiple representations of the same physical phenomena are
available. We experimentally demonstrate the benefits of mining joint
information from different camera views for multi-view face recognition.Comment: Accepted to International Conference in Image Processing (ICIP) 201
