Fading Corporatism: Israel\u27s Labor Law and Industrial Relations in Transition

[Excerpt] This book surveys Israeli labor law from 1920 to the present. The process of writing and publishing a book does not always conform to the pace of events, particularly when the subject matter is contemporary history. The book is therefore updated until the end of 2005. References to court cases and events that began before 2005 were updated at the end of 2006. However, no developments since that time have been integrated into the text. In my opinion, no such event undermines the central argument of the book; several reinforce it. Presenting a book in English that focuses on Israel\u27s labor law presents many editorial dilemmas. Moreover, the book\u27s claim is that Israeli law developed on the basis of continental European systems and is now adopting features of American law. Hence it is difficult to determine how to translate the law and how to convey a feel of the Israeli story. While providing a consistent method was the most important goal, I have also attempted to keep the book as simple and user-friendly as possible

The Multiple Pastor Ministry: Profile of a Psychological View Towards Initial Adjustment Dynamics

In this study the multiple ministry to be considered is the multiple pastor ministry in the typical arrangement of senior pastor and assistant pastor, or assistant pastors. Although many of the dynamics of the situation are the same, this study will not deal explicitly with the team ministry or the co-pastor ministry where an attempt is made to make each pastor equal in the eyes of the members of the congregation. Since the primary concern is that of the relationship of the pastors, other aspects of the multiple staff ministry including relationships with non-clergy staff will not be considered. This research paper is a profile of a psychological view because psychology is too large of a field of study to discuss all of the various theories and their relationship to the multiple pastoral ministry

Retelling narrative in 360º videos : Implications for audio description

The aim of this article is to question whether the approach for producing audio description (AD) in 2D films needs to be revisited for 360  narrative videos, a new media format characterized by its immersive capacity. To provide answers, a two-step research methodology was designed. First, an extensive literature review was performed. The data obtained during the first step was then used to design and carry out focus groups. The first part of the article discusses the findings from the literature review, comparing standard narratives with 360  narrative videos. It draws some conclusions for audio describers in relation to AD content selection, a key task in the translation of visuals into words. In the second part of the article, data obtained from the focus groups held with describers and AD users is presented. The results suggest possible approaches to AD for 360  content, such as the use of spatial sound and elements of interaction

Migração nas políticas externas de países desenvolvidos: a exclusão do tema da agenda de direitos humanos

This paper’s goal is to analyze the contradiction between the developed western countries’ discourse in favor of human rights and their foreign policies towards the subject, focusing on immigration. This is done via the analysis of 20 years of diplomatic decisions in Human Rights bodies at the United Nations, resorting to bibliographical and documental sources and using descriptive and explanatory research methods through the application of inductive reasoning. After cataloging and studying the diplomatic decisions of four countries – the U.K., France, Sweden, and Norway –, one can notice that this issue has peculiarities if compared to other human rights subjects addressed by international institutions. Among the results, it can be observed the exclusion of the immigration topic from the human rights agenda, as it is placed in the economic or security ones. And the growing amount of diplomatic and legal instruments against the migrant population lead to the increase of their vulnerability and even, in some cases, to the violation of international law. Keywords: Immigration; Human rights; Foreign policy.Este artigo tem o objetivo de analisar a questão da imigração contemporânea sob a ótica das políticas externas de países ocidentais desenvolvidos. Isso é feito através da análise de decisões diplomáticas durante 20 anos no âmbito de instituições relacionadas a direitos humanos dentro da ONU, recorrendo-se a fontes bibliográficas e documentais e utilizando-se os métodos descritivo e explicativo em uma pesquisa indutiva. Por meio da catalogação e do estudo de decisões diplomáticas de quatro países – França, Reino Unido, Suécia e Noruega –, observa-se que o tema imigração têm peculiaridades comparativamente com outros temas de direitos humanos abordados nos mesmos foros internacionais. Dentre as conclusões, percebe-se a exclusão da imigração da agenda de direitos humanos e a inclusão em agendas como a de economia ou de segurança. E a crescente quantidade de instrumentos diplomáticos e legais em desfavor da população imigrante aumenta sua vulnerabilidade e gera em alguns casos, inclusive, a violação do direito internacional.Palavras-Chave: Imigração; Direitos humanos; Política externa
