The authors sketch a framework for monitoring macroeconomic activity in real-time and push it in new directions. In particular, they focus not only on real activity, which has received most attention to date, but also on inflation and its interaction with real activity. REAL-TIME BRIDGE MONITORING

Mostovi su važne infrastrukturne građevine i zbog toga ih je potrebno održavati. Održavanje obuhvaća preglede i popravak uočenih oštećenja. U radu je dan pregled nekih od metoda za kontinuirano motrenje i primjeri njihove primjene na izgrađenim mostovima. Metode koriste: GPS (Global Positioning System; satelitski Sustav globalnog pozicioniranja), akcelerometre, optička vlakna, anemometre, tenzometre. Iako je postavljanje opreme za kontinuirano motrenje mostova isprva skuplje od uobičajenih metoda, ono omogućuje uvid u stanje mosta u bilo kojem trenutku te pravodobno reagiranje.Bridges are important infrastructural objects and they must be maintained. Maintenance includes inspection and repair of identified damages. Paper gives a review of several methods for real-time monitoring. Methods use: GPS (Global Positioning System), accelerometars, optical fibers, anemometers, strain gages. Although the installation of equipment for real-time monitoring is initially more expensive then for conventional methods it enables an insight into a condition of the bridge in any given time and reaction in timely manner

A study of publish/subscribe systems for real-time grid monitoring

Monitoring and controlling a large number of geographically distributed scientific instruments is a challenging task. Some operations on these instruments require real-time (or quasi real-time) response which make it even more difficult. In this paper, we describe the requirements of distributed monitoring for a possible future electrical power grid based on real-time extensions to grid computing. We examine several standards and publish/subscribe middleware candidates, some of which were specially designed and developed for grid monitoring. We analyze their architecture and functionality, and discuss the advantages and disadvantages. We report on a series of tests to measure their real-time performance and scalability

Using microelectrode models for real time cell-culture monitoring

This paper proposes a cell-microelectrode model for cell biometry applications, based on the area overlap as main parameter. The model can be applied to cell size identification, cell count, and their extension to cell growth and dosimetry protocols. Experiments performed with comercial electrodes are presented, illustrating a procedure to obtain cell number in both growth and dosimetry processes.
