Multi-layer Decision methodology For ranking Z-numbers

    Get PDF
The new concept of a – number has been recently introduced in decision making analysis. This concept is capable of effectively dealing with uncertainty in information about a decision. As this concept is relatively new in fuzzy sets, its underlying theoretical aspects have not been established yet. In this paper, a multi-layer methodology for ranking Z – numbers is proposed for the first time. This methodology consists of two layers: Z – number conversion as the first layer and fuzzy number ranking as the second layer. In this study, the conversion methodology of Z – numbers into fuzzy numbers is extended to conversion into standardised generalised fuzzy number so that the methodology is applicable to both positive and negative data values. The methodology is validated by means of thorough comparison with some established ranking methods for consistency purposes. This methodology is considered as a generic decision making procedure, especially when – numbers are applied to real decision making problems

Sustainability ranking of desalination plants using Mamdani Fuzzy Logic Inference Systems

As water desalination continues to expand globally, desalination plants are continually under pressure to meet the requirements of sustainable development. However, the majority of desalination sustainability research has focused on new desalination projects, with limited research on sustainability performance of existing desalination plants. This is particularly important while considering countries with limited resources for freshwater such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as it is heavily reliant on existing desalination infrastructure. In this regard, the current research deals with the sustainability analysis of desalination processes using a generic sustainability ranking framework based on Mamdani Fuzzy Logic Inference Systems. The fuzzy-based models were validated using data from two typical desalination plants in the UAE. The promising results obtained from the fuzzy ranking framework suggest this more in-depth sustainability analysis should be beneficial due to its flexibility and adaptability in meeting the requirements of desalination sustainability

Generalized Grey Target Decision Method for Mixed Attributes Based on Connection Number

    Get PDF
Grey target decision model for mixed attributes including real numbers, interval numbers, triangular fuzzy numbers, and trapezoidal fuzzy numbers is complex for its data processing in different ways and information distortion in handling fuzzy numbers. To solve these problems, the binary connection number proposed in set pair analysis is applied to unify different types of index values with their parameters’ average values and standard deviations as determinacy-uncertainty vectors. Then the target center index vectors are determined by the modules of index vectors of all alternatives under different attributes. So the similarity of each index vector and its target center index vector called nearness degree can be calculated. Following, all the nearness degrees are normalized in linear method in order to be compared with each other. Finally, the optimal alternative can be determined by the minimum of all integrated nearness degrees. Case study demonstrated that this approach can not only unify different types of numbers, and simplify the calculation but also reduce the information distortion in operating fuzzy numbers
