TESTING THE NEG MODEL : FURTHER EVIDENCE FROM PANEL DATA
Local wage variations in the UK are explained by two non-nested rival hypotheses. The first derives from new economic geography theory, in which wages depend on market access. The second come from urban economics theory, giving a reduced form with wage rates dependent on employment density. The paper examines whether one of these rivals is encompassed by the other by fitting an artificial nesting model using three alternative panel data estimators. The estimates indicate that neither hypothesis is encompassed by its rival, suggesting a need for new, more comprehensive, theory.PANEL DATA, SPATIALLY CORRELATED ERROR COMPONENTS, MARKET ACCESS, NEW ECONOMIC GEOGRAPHY, SPATIAL ECONOMETRICS, NON-NESTED HYPOTHESIS
Determinantal and eigenvalue inequalities for matrices with numerical ranges in a sector
Let A = \pmatrix A_{11} & A_{12} \cr A_{21} & A_{22}\cr\pmatrix \in M_n,
where with , be such that the numerical range of
lies in the set \{e^{i\varphi} z \in \IC: |\Im z| \le (\Re z) \tan
\alpha\}, for some and . We
obtain the optimal containment region for the generalized eigenvalue
satisfying \lambda \pmatrix A_{11} & 0 \cr 0 & A_{22}\cr\pmatrix x = \pmatrix
0 & A_{12} \cr A_{21} & 0\cr\pmatrix x \quad \hbox{for some nonzero} x \in
\IC^n, and the optimal eigenvalue containment region of the matrix in case and are
invertible. From this result, one can show . In particular, if is a accretive-dissipative

conjectures of Drury and Lin.Comment: 6 pages, to appear in Journal of Mathematical Analysi
Coherent eta photoproduction on the deuteron in the resonance region
Coherent eta photoproduction on the deuteron is studied in the
resonance region neglecting eta rescattering and two-body processes. For the
elementary reaction on the nucleon, we have considered the dominant
resonance and as background the nucleon pole terms as well as
and meson exchange. We have studied the influence of different
choices for the neutron resonance amplitude, different prescriptions for fixing
the invariant mass of the resonance amplitude and different methods for
deriving the elementary production amplitude for an arbitrary reference frame.Comment: 33 pages revtex including 13 postscript figure
eta-photoproduction in the resonance energy region
The production in the nucleon resonance energy region is studied
within the unitary coupled-channels effective Lagrangian approach of the
Giessen model. We demonstrate that the second peak recently observed in the
cross section of photoproduction on the neutron at =1.66 GeV
can be explained in terms of coupled-channel effects due to and
resonance excitations
Abstract - This paper describes inward and outward stocks and flows of Chinese direct investment, and assesses what they might disclose about the current process of economic development. More particularly, it shows the difficulties met with by the Chinese economy in acquiring the high technology standards it seeks.CHINE, INVESTISSEMENTS DIRECTS ÉTRANGERS, DÉVELOPPEMENT ÉCONOMIQUE, TRANSFERT TECHNOLOGIQUE
A CSO Search for -CH: Detection in the Orion Bar PDR
The results of a Caltech Submillimeter Observatory (CSO) search for
-CH, first detected by Pety et al. (2012) in observations toward the
Horsehead photodissociation region (PDR), are presented. A total of 39 sources
were observed in the 1 mm window. Evidence of emission from -CH is
found in only a single source - the Orion Bar PDR region, which shows a
rotational temperature of 178(13) K and a column density of 7(2) x
cm. In the remaining sources, upper limits of ~10
cm are found. These results are discussed in the context of guiding
future observational searches for this species.Comment: 9 pages, 8 figures, 4 table
