Professional Practice Guidelines for Occupationally Mandated Psychological Evaluations

Get PDF
Psychological evaluations are relied on by employers, professional licensing boards, and civil service commissions to make hiring and employment decisions affecting individuals, orga- nizations, and the public. To promote best practices, these professional practice guidelines were developed for use by psychologists who perform clinical evaluations of individuals for occupational purposes, regardless of whether the evaluation is intended to obtain employ- ment, to achieve licensure/certification, or to maintain either. These guidelines were created by the Committee on Professional Practice and Standards (COPPS) to educate and inform the practice of psychologists who conduct occupationally mandated psychological evaluations (OMPEs), as well as to stimulate debate and research in this important area

Crowdfunding is a relatively new term; it’s a neologism that has been brought to live in 2006. The word itself is a blend of two terms: ‘crowd’ and ‘funding’ and the background for that term is connected with ‘crowdsourcing’. Crowdfunding use special platforms, web and online payments. The aim of the paper is mainly related to defining crowdfunding, describing models of crowdfunding and indicating some of psychological motivations and conditions to operate in crowdfunding realm. The analysis provides a clear picture of crowdfunding models and psy- chological motivations to crowdfunding. What is more, some of the recent researches and case studies will be presented to show some of the particular crowdfunding activities

Reaction time and intelligence:Comparing associations based on two response modes

People who score highly on intelligence tests also tend to have faster and less variable reaction times. Effect size estimates for the reaction time-intelligence association are larger in samples that are more representative of the population. However, such samples have often been tested on a reaction time device that requires reading a number and processing its association with a specific response location (Cox, Huppert, & Whichelow, 1993). Here, we use this device and another reaction time device (Dykiert et al., 2010) that is similar, except that the responses require less processing; subjects simply press a button that is adjacent to the stimulus light. We focus on the possibility that lights as stimuli require less higher-order cognitive engagement than numbers, and then test whether parameters from these two tasks are highly correlated and similarly associated with age and higher cognitive abilities. Both tasks measured simple and choice reaction times and their intra-individual variation across trials. The parameters of the two tasks were very highly correlated and parameters from both tasks were similarly associated with age, social factors, and differences in higher cognitive abilities. The respective choice reaction time parameters from either task accounted for much of the age- and higher cognitive ability-associations of the other task's parameters. These findings are important in establishing that the effect sizes of higher cognitive ability associations with processing speed measures may be found when the processing demands are minimal.(C) 2013 Elsevier Inc. The Need for Psychological Rehabilitation in Lung Transplant Recipients

Get PDF
Transplant recipients have significant psychosocial stressors due to unique posttransplant sequela that results in an increased incidence of psychopathology. Posttransplant psychological interventions, especially in lung transplant recipients, are understudied, as the focus of prior research has emphasized pretransplant interventions. However, posttransplant psychological stability affects medical outcomes. The importance of posttransplant psychological intervention is highlighted. Recommendations exist which call for attention to specific psychological domains in the posttransplant recovery period and highlight the impact of psychological rehabilitation on overall wellness and success in recovery. A novel psychological rehabilitation intervention is outlined as a response to posttransplant intervention recommendations to demonstrate implementation

Methods in Psychological Research

Psychologists collect empirical data with various methods for different reasons. These diverse methods have their strengths as well as weaknesses. Nonetheless, it is possible to rank them in terms of different critieria. For example, the experimental method is used to obtain the least ambiguous conclusion. Hence, it is the best suited to corroborate conceptual, explanatory hypotheses. The interview method, on the other hand, gives the research participants a kind of emphatic experience that may be important to them. It is for the reason the best method to use in a clinical setting. All non-experimental methods owe their origin to the interview method. Quasi-experiments are suited for answering practical questions when ecological validity is importa
