Detection of Non-Technical Losses in Smart Distribution Networks: a Review
With the advent of smart grids, distribution utilities have
initiated a large deployment of smart meters on the premises of the
consumers. The enormous amount of data obtained from the consumers
and communicated to the utility give new perspectives and possibilities
for various analytics-based applications. In this paper the current
smart metering-based energy-theft detection schemes are reviewed and
discussed according to two main distinctive categories: A) system statebased,
and B) arti cial intelligence-based.Comisión Europea FP7-PEOPLE-2013-IT
Distributed MPC for coordinated energy efficiency utilization in microgrid systems
To improve the renewable energy utilization of distributed microgrid systems, this paper presents an optimal distributed model predictive control strategy to coordinate energy management among microgrid systems. In particular, through information exchange among systems, each microgrid in the network, which includes renewable generation, storage systems, and some controllable loads, can maintain its own systemwide supply and demand balance. With our mechanism, the closed-loop stability of the distributed microgrid systems can be guaranteed. In addition, we provide evaluation criteria of renewable energy utilization to validate our proposed method. Simulations show that the supply demand balance in each microgrid is achieved while, at the same time, the system operation cost is reduced, which demonstrates the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed policy.Accepted manuscrip
Differentially Private State Estimation in Distribution Networks with Smart Meters
State estimation is routinely being performed in high-voltage power
transmission grids in order to assist in operation and to detect faulty
equipment. In low- and medium-voltage power distribution grids, on the other
hand, few real-time measurements are traditionally available, and operation is
often conducted based on predicted and historical data. Today, in many parts of
the world, smart meters have been deployed at many customers, and their
measurements could in principle be shared with the operators in real time to
enable improved state estimation. However, customers may feel reluctance in
doing so due to privacy concerns. We therefore propose state estimation schemes
for a distribution grid model, which ensure differential privacy to the
customers. In particular, the state estimation schemes optimize different
performance criteria, and a trade-off between a lower bound on the estimation
performance versus the customers' differential privacy is derived. The proposed
framework is general enough to be applicable also to other distribution
networks, such as water and gas networks
