The study was initiated through a demographic analysis of high school and college female students of Quito, Ecuador. Once the target population was identified, a tool for collecting data was created based on the Social Cognitive Career Theory to gather information about the factors that hinder and motivate women to pursue a degree in engineering. The information collected from the sample of high school students, was used to develop a predictive model that found the tendency of students to choose a career in science or engineering, this model will help advisors to realize professional attitudes of their female students. On the other hand, the information gathered from the undergraduate students will define the reasons why they are motivated to complete a career in this field. In addition, a new sample of non-engineering students was taken to obtain their perception of the barriers that women encounter while studying a career in science or engineering and compare these results with the perception of the engineering students.
