Energy Efficient Clustering and Routing in Mobile Wireless Sensor Network
A critical need in Mobile Wireless Sensor Network (MWSN) is to achieve energy
efficiency during routing as the sensor nodes have scarce energy resource. The
nodes' mobility in MWSN poses a challenge to design an energy efficient routing
protocol. Clustering helps to achieve energy efficiency by reducing the
organization complexity overhead of the network which is proportional to the
number of nodes in the network. This paper proposes a novel hybrid multipath
routing algorithm with an efficient clustering technique. A node is selected as
cluster head if it has high surplus energy, better transmission range and least
mobility. The Energy Aware (EA) selection mechanism and the Maximal Nodal
Surplus Energy estimation technique incorporated in this algorithm improves the
energy performance during routing. Simulation results can show that the
proposed clustering and routing algorithm can scale well in dynamic and energy
deficient mobile sensor network.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figure
On Energy Efficient Hierarchical Cross-Layer Design: Joint Power Control and Routing for Ad Hoc Networks
In this paper, a hierarchical cross-layer design approach is proposed to
increase energy efficiency in ad hoc networks through joint adaptation of
nodes' transmitting powers and route selection. The design maintains the
advantages of the classic OSI model, while accounting for the cross-coupling
between layers, through information sharing. The proposed joint power control
and routing algorithm is shown to increase significantly the overall energy
efficiency of the network, at the expense of a moderate increase in complexity.
Performance enhancement of the joint design using multiuser detection is also
investigated, and it is shown that the use of multiuser detection can increase
the capacity of the ad hoc network significantly for a given level of energy
consumption.Comment: To appear in the EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and

A survey of routing protocols for energy constrained ad hoc wireless networks
In this survey we review energy-aware routing protocols for wireless multihop ad hoc networks and critically discuss the main results in this area. The classification presented is in no case unique but summarizes the chief characteristics of the many published proposals for energy conservation. A common pitfall detected in most of the studies is the lack of unambiguous notion of network's lifetime and hence of clear objective of the designed algorithm. We, therefore, define first what operational lifetime for ad hoc networks means and then analyze the achievements from that angle. After getting insight into the different energy-aware routing protocols we point out another approach for extending network's operational lifespan, which has been overlooked in the relevant literature.Peer Reviewe
E2XLRADR (Energy Efficient Cross Layer Routing Algorithm with Dynamic Retransmission for Wireless Sensor Networks)
The main focus of this article is to achieve prolonged network lifetime with
overall energy efficiency in wireless sensor networks through controlled
utilization of limited energy. Major percentage of energy in wireless sensor
network is consumed during routing from source to destination, retransmission
of data on packet loss. For improvement, cross layered algorithm is proposed
for routing and retransmission scheme. Simulation and results shows that this
approach can save the overall energy consumptio
Exponential Reliability Coefficient based Reputation Mechanism for isolating selfish nodes in MANETs
AbstractIn mobile ad hoc networks, cooperation among active mobile nodes is considered to play a vital role in reliable transmission of data. But, the selfish mobile nodes present in an ad hoc environment refuse to forward neighbouring nodes’ packet for conserving its own energy. This intentional selfish behaviour drastically reduces the degree of cooperation maintained between the mobile nodes. Hence, a need arises for devising an effective mechanism which incorporates both energy efficiency and reputation into account for mitigating selfish behaviour in MANETs. In this paper, we propose an Exponential Reliability Coefficient based reputation Mechanism (ERCRM) which isolates the selfish nodes from the routing path based on Exponential Reliability Coefficient (ExRC). This reliability coefficient manipulated through exponential failure rate based on moving average method highlights the most recent past behaviour of the mobile nodes for quantifying its genuineness. From the simulation results, it is evident that, the proposed ERCRM approach outperforms the existing Packet Conservation Monitoring Algorithm (PCMA) and Spilt Half Reliability Coefficient based Mathematical Model (SHRCM) in terms of performance evaluation metrics such as packet delivery ratio, throughput, total overhead and control overhead. Further, this ERCRM mechanism has a successful rate of 28% in isolating the selfish nodes from the routing path. Furthermore, it also aids in framing the exponential threshold point of detection as 0.4, where a maximum number of selfish nodes are identified when compared to the existing models available in the literature
