Performance rating via the FEAST INDICES

    No full text
Based on recent algorithmic and computational studies, we present the FEAST INDICES which are indicators for the true performance of many modern processors, ranging from 'low cost' PC's up to supercomputers. These indices allow a new rating of the various hardware platforms with regard to actual numerical simulation techniques, as for instance 'large scale' FEM computations with iterative solvers of multigrid type. We examine the computational efficiency of certain Linear Algebra components which are part the FEAST software, hereby applying typical sparse approaches and the new sparse banded BLAS style which allows optimized performance rates in the range of hundreds of MFLOP/s for 'simple' matrix-vector applications as well as for complete multigrid.
