This paper describes the author’s experiences in performance management and capacity planning for Oracle applications on OS/390 mainframes. The special performance considerations and problems in mainframe Oracle implementations are covered, together with the ways in which those systems can be configured for optimum performance. A real-life case study is used to illustrate the required data sources and techniques, and to and show the benefits (and pitfalls!) encountered on the way. 1
