Covariate Analysis for View-point Independent Gait Recognition

    No full text
Many studies have shown that gait can be deployed as a biometric. Few of these have addressed the effects of view-point and covariate factors on the recognition process. We describe the first analysis which combines view-point invariance for gait recognition which is based on a model-based pose estimation approach from a single un-calibrated camera. A set of experiments are carried out to explore how such factors including clothing, carrying conditions and view-point can affect the identification process using gait. Based on a covariate-based probe dataset of over 270 samples, a recognition rate of 73.4% is achieved using the KNN classifier. This confirms that people identification using dynamic gait features is still perceivable with better recognition rate even under the different covariate factors. As such, this is an important step in translating research from the laboratory to a surveillance environment

Modelling Load Balancing and Carrier Aggregation in Mobile Networks

In this paper, we study the performance of multicarrier mobile networks. Specifically, we analyze the flow-level performance of two inter-carrier load balancing schemes and the gain engendered by Carrier Aggregation (CA). CA is one of the most important features of HSPA+ and LTE-A networks; it allows devices to be served simultaneously by several carriers. We propose two load balancing schemes, namely Join the Fastest Queue (JFQ) and Volume Balancing (VB), that allow the traffic of CA and non-CA users to be distributed over the aggregated carriers. We then evaluate the performance of these schemes by means of analytical modeling. We show that the proposed schemes achieve quasi-ideal load balancing. We also investigate the impact of mixing traffic of CA and non-CA users in the same cell and show that performance is practically insensitive to the traffic mix.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, submitted to WiOpt201

Exact Error Analysis For Decode and Forward Multirelay Cooperative Systems an Algorithmic Approach

    Get PDF
The bit error rate (BER) performance analysis of maximum-likelihood (ML) based decode and forward (DF) cooperative diversity systems has been a subject of consid- erable interest. Exact analysis of ML-DF transmission has been considered a chal- lenging problem due to the nonlinear characteristic of the ML detector. In this thesis, we provide exact expressions for the BER of ML-DF cooperative systems employing a single relay. This is done by using a novel theory of conditionally Gaussian random variables and special hypergeometric functions. By expressing the ML decision vari- able in terms of functions of conditionally Gaussian variables, exact expressions for the BER of the ML-DF system are obtained. Through simulation results, we verify the validity of the derived analytical expressions

High demands on biodiesel fuel usage on diesel engine is influences the manufacturer to produce more biodiesel fuel especially by using waste products instead of plant oil. Currently, waste products are easily to recycle in many ways including fuel production in order to get better environment. In addition, biodiesel fuel consuming is claimed in HC and CO emissions reduction. It shows that biodiesel fuel combustion is promising to emit the green emissions into environment and protect our planet from global warming. Biodiesel fuel consumption also is one of an alternative to support high demand and depleting of fossil fuel. Jatropha oil and waste cooking oil biodiesel fuels were produced using a two-step of transesterification process using methanol with sulfuric acid catalyst to diminish their free fatty acid level. Then, the transesterification was continued with methanol and the catalyst of potassium hydroxide. The paper focuses on the determination of chemical properties of biodiesel blends fuel using jatropha oil and waste cooking oil biodiesel fuel in different percentages. It also presents the combustion performances and emissions of both biodiesel fuels in diesel engine
