Immunosuppressants and risk of Parkinson disease
We performed a population-based case-control study of United States Medicare beneficiaries age 60-90 in 2009 with prescription data (48,295 incident Parkinson disease cases and 52,324 controls) to examine the risk of Parkinson disease in relation to use of immunosuppressants. Inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase inhibitors (relative risk = 0.64; 95% confidence interval 0.51-0.79) and corticosteroids (relative risk = 0.80; 95% confidence interval 0.77-0.83) were both associated with a lower risk of Parkinson disease. Inverse associations for both remained after applying a 12-month exposure lag. Overall, this study provides evidence that use of corticosteroids and inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase inhibitors might lower the risk of Parkinson disease
A smart tool for the diagnosis of Parkinsonian syndrome using wireless watches
This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 License.Early detection and diagnosis of Parkinson disease will provide a good chance for patients to take early actions and prevent its further development. In this paper, a smart tool for the diagnosis of Parkinsonian syndromes is designed and developed using low-cost Texas Instruments eZ430-Chronos wireless watches. With this smart tool, Parkinson Bradykinesia is detected based on the cycle of a human gait, with the watch worn on the foot, and Parkinson Tremor shaking is detected and differed by frequency 0 to 8 Hz on the arm in real-time with a developed statistical diagnosis chart. It can be used in small clinics as well as home environment due to its low-cost and easy-use property

Handwriting analysis for diagnosis and prognosis of Parkinsonâs disease
At present, there are no quantitative, objective methods for diagnosing the Parkinson disease. Existing methods of quantitative analysis by myograms suffer by inaccuracy and patient strain; electronic tablet analysis is limited to the visible drawing, not including the writing forces and hand movements. In our paper we show how handwriting analysis can be obtained by a new electronic pen and new features of the recorded signals. This gives good results for diagnostics. Keywords: Parkinson diagnosis, electronic pen, automatic handwriting analysi
Isotropic random walks on affine buildings
In this paper we apply techniques of spherical harmonic analysis to prove a
local limit theorem, a rate of escape theorem, and a central limit theorem for
isotropic random walks on arbitrary thick regular affine buildings of
irreducible type.Comment: To appear in Annales de l'Institut Fourie
Buildings and Hecke algebras
This paper investigates the connections between buildings and Hecke algebras
through the combinatorial study of two algebras spanned by averaging operators
on buildings. As a consequence we obtain a geometric and combinatorial
description of certain Hecke algebras, and in particular of the Macdonald
spherical functions and the center of affine Hecke algebras. The results of
this paper are used in later work to study spherical harmonic analysis on
affine buildings, and to study isotropic random walks on affine buildings
