Knowledge-based economy forces companies in the nation to group together as a cluster in order to maintain their competitiveness in the world market. The cluster development relies on two key success factors which are knowledge sharing and collaboration between the actors in the cluster. Thus, our study tries to propose knowledge management system to support knowledge management activities within the cluster. To achieve the objectives of this study, ontology takes a very important role in knowledge management process in various ways; such as building reusable and faster knowledge-bases, better way for representing the knowledge explicitly. However, creating and representing ontology create difficulties to organization due to the ambiguity and unstructured of source of knowledge. Therefore, the objectives of this paper are to propose the methodology to create and represent ontology for the organization development by using knowledge engineering approach. The handicraft cluster in Thailand is used as a case study to illustrate our proposed methodology.Ontology, Knowledge Management System, Industry Clusters

In an era when knowledge is considered the most important factor in creating competitive advantages in organizations, it is especially important to pay attention to knowledge management (KM). Therefore, in order for the organization to be successful and have a better performance in this area, key success factors of knowledge management should be emphasized. It is a highly difficult task to bring about change in an organization and enable an organization to utilize all of the forms and capabilities of knowledge management using the available resources in order to obtain its goals regarding its circumstances and binding commitments. Assessment and evaluation depend upon the concepts of knowledge. One of the keys to success is to achieve high quality products. There are two common approaches in all organizations for achieving key success factors, one of them is the business process and the other is human resources process. Both of these processes are crucial for building major organizations and companies, but human resources should be emphasized here. Here, I start with providing definitions for management, knowledge, different types of knowledge, and knowledge management systems and then I will discuss about what knowledge management is and whether or not the knowledge of management preferred to knowledge management

Today, the manufacturing industry is under pressure to be able to rapidly come up with innovative designs and produce them in much shorter timeframes in order to keep up with growing customer demands and quickly gain new business. One of the ways used to achieve shorter time to markets for new product developments is by using design for manufacturing (DFM) methods to reduce time and energy going into resolving manufacturing based defects. It is also more vital in todayā€™s manufacturing industry to make use of DFM methods much earlier in the product development lifecycle in order to prevent potentially known quality defects from happening and save on costs associated with late design changes. This requires enabling a more systemic feedback cycle of production data for the creation of DFM knowledge repositories as well as overcoming some wider knowledge sharing barriers across the organization. This investigation focuses on how the communications of manufacturing knowledge from production data is affected by factors within the overall organization. The investigation is one of the few that consider the influence of organizational factors on the communication of engineering knowledge as well as the related knowledge sharing barriers. The project is carried out empirically with a large UK based aerospace manufacturing company by gathering data primarily from observations and interviews. This paper presents the findings followed by discussions for improving DFM Knowledge Management in the aerospace industry

    No full text
In order to identify the factors influencing compliance with mass ivermectin treatment for onchocerciasis control, a cross-sectional study was carried out in Bushenyi District, Uganda. Data were collected by interviewing 839 individuals who were randomly selected from 30 clusters where onchocerciasis is endemic. Information was collected on compliance with ivermectin treatment, socio-demographic characteristics, perception of personal susceptibility to onchocerciasis, knowledge about cause/transmission of onchocerciasis, knowledge of signs and symptoms of onchocerciasis, treatment of onchocerciasis, benefits and dangers of taking ivermectin, organization of distribution of ivermectin, work and selections of community drug distributors (CDDs), social influence and support to take ivermectin and on barriers and supports towards compliance with ivermectin treatment. The major factors favouring compliance were: perceiving CDDs as doing their work well, believing that measuring height is the best way to determine one's dose of ivermectin, having social support from one's family, saying that ivermectin treatment costs nothing, perceiving personal risk of onchocerciasis, believing that ivermectin prevents onchocerciasis and perceiving radios as supporting treatment with ivermectin. The strongest predictor of compliance with ivermectin treatment is perceiving CDDs as doing their work well with adjusted odds ratios of 5.54 (95% CI: 3.19-9.62). In order to improve compliance with ivermectin treatment, CDDs need to be well-facilitated and ivermectin distribution should be free. Health education is necessary so that people perceive themselves to be at risk of onchocerciasis and to understand the rationale of using height for dose determination. The health education should target the family and use radios
