Capacity Region of Finite State Multiple-Access Channel with Delayed State Information at the Transmitters
A single-letter characterization is provided for the capacity region of
finite-state multiple access channels. The channel state is a Markov process,
the transmitters have access to delayed state information, and channel state
information is available at the receiver. The delays of the channel state
information are assumed to be asymmetric at the transmitters. We apply the
result to obtain the capacity region for a finite-state Gaussian MAC, and for a
finite-state multiple-access fading channel. We derive power control strategies
that maximize the capacity region for these channels
Turbo-detected unequal protection audio and speech transceivers using serially concatenated convolutional codes, trellis coded modulation and space-time trellis coding
The MPEG-4 TwinVQ audio codec and the AMR-WB speech codec are investigated in the context of a jointly optimised turbo transceiver capable of providing unequal error protection. The transceiver advocated consists of serially concatenated Space-Time Trellis Coding (STTC), Trellis Coded Modulation (TCM) and two different-rate Non-Systematic Convolutional codes (NSCs) used for unequal error protection. A benchmarker scheme combining STTC and a single-class protection NSC is used for comparison with the proposed scheme. The audio and speech performance of both schemes is evaluated, when communicating over uncorrelated Rayleigh fading channels. An value of about 2.5 (3.5)~dB is required for near-unimpaired audio (speech) transmission, which is about 3.07 (4.2)~dB from the capacity of the system
Irregular Turbo Codes in Block-Fading Channels
We study irregular binary turbo codes over non-ergodic block-fading channels.
We first propose an extension of channel multiplexers initially designed for
regular turbo codes. We then show that, using these multiplexers, irregular
turbo codes that exhibit a small decoding threshold over the ergodic
Gaussian-noise channel perform very close to the outage probability on
block-fading channels, from both density evolution and finite-length
perspectives.Comment: to be presented at the IEEE International Symposium on Information

Stabilization over power-constrained parallel Gaussian channels
This technical note is concerned with state-feedback stabilization of multi-input systems over parallel Gaussian channels subject to a total power constraint. Both continuous-time and discrete-time systems are treated under the framework of H2 control, and necessary/sufficient conditions for stabilizability are established in terms of inequalities involving unstable plant poles, transmitted power, and noise variances. These results are further used to clarify the relationship between channel capacity and stabilizability. Compared to single-input systems, a range of technical issues arise. In particular, in the multi-input case, the optimal controller has a separation structure, and the lower bound on channel capacity for some discrete-time systems is unachievable by linear time-invariant (LTI) encoders/decoder
