This special volume celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Journal of Statistical Software (JSS) and is a Festschrift for its founding editor Jan de Leeuw. Jan recently retired from his long-held position as founding chair of the Department of Statistics at the University of California, Los Angeles. The contributions to this special volume look back at some of his research interests and accomplishments during the half-century that he has been active in psychometrics and statistics. In this introduction, the guest editors also reminisce on their own first encounters with Jan, ten years ago. Since that time JSS has solidified its place as a leading journal of computational statistics, a fact that has a lot to do with Jan's stewardship. We include a brief history of JSS

The Vision and Mission of The Yale Journal of International Law

The twenty-fifth anniversary of the founding of The Yale Journal of International Law is an occasion to reflect on the origins of this remarkable journal, the sense of mission that animated its founders, and the context in which it was forged. It is also an occasion to look forward, for this journal, more than any other international law journal, saw itself engaged consciously and explicitly in an essentially futuristic enterprise. Unlike its contemporary counterparts, which were essentially retrospective, concerned with the codification and assembly of decisions from the past into a neat mosaic, then presented as the law, the new Yale journal\u27s avowed mission from the start was to contribute to the formation and appraisal of international policy. So let me begin with a brief informal history of The Yale Journal ofInternational Law

Foreword: Twenty-Five Years of Supporting the Global Common Good Through Legal Publication

As the Washington International Law Journal enters its twenty-fifth year of publication, it is only fitting to reflect on the Journal’s founding principles and original goals. The Washington International Law Journal was established in 1990 as the Pacific Rim Law & Policy Journal and was created “to bridge the gap between the East and West.” During its first twenty-three years of publication, the Pacific Rim Law & Policy Journal thrived in the opportunities afforded by the University of Washington School of Law’s strong and historic ties to the Pacific Rim region—including the Asian Law Center, its geographic proximity to the region, and the wealth of student translators willing and able to translate important legal texts from Korean, Chinese, and Japanese to English. In the years since the Journal’s founding, the global impact of legal developments in the Pacific Rim region has grown exponentially. As such, the region has become a bellwether of global legal developments. Accordingly, the Journal’s readership increased and the University of Washington developed stronger international ties beyond the Pacific Rim region. Recognizing this shifting dynamic, the 23rd editorial board of the Pacific Rim Law & Policy Journal made a bold and calculated decision to change its name to the Washington International Law Journal, expanding its scope to cover all non-U.S. jurisdictions and international legal issues. With this scope expansion, the Journal evolved into an exceptional forum in U.S. publications for non-U.S. centric legal articles

[Extract] On behalf of the Australian Society for Parasitology and Elsevier, it is our privilege to welcome you to the inaugural issue of the International Journal for Parasitology – Drugs and Drug Resistance (IJP-DDR). This new journal is a partner journal to the International Journal for Parasitology (IJP). The mandate of IJP-DDR is to publish original research aimed at developing drugs for control of unicellular or multicellular parasites of human or veterinary importance. It is intended to disseminate new knowledge in the area of anti-parasitic drugs and drug development and foster research aimed at defining mechanisms of drug resistance, as well as stimulating debate on matters of current controversy in these areas. In keeping with current publishing trends, IJP-DDR will be an open-access journal. The two founding Editors-in-Chief, Kevin Saliba and Andrew Kotze, will be responsible for the editing of submissions in the area of unicellular and multicellular parasites, respectively. They are supported by an internationally respected team of Editorial Board members spanning the many specialist research areas within the broad field of parasitology and drugs. We encourage colleagues in this field of research to submit appropriate papers to IJP-DDR. Please send your pre-submission inquiries to the communal Elsevier e-mail address . At a time when parasite drug resistance continues to threaten human and animal health, the Australian Society for Parasitology is delighted to have fostered the founding of this new journal which we anticipate will provide an excellent forum for the dissemination of original discoveries in this critical area of parasitology research

This issue of Literacy and Numeracy Studies farewells one of our founding editors, Rosie Wickert. Rosie was instrumental in bringing the predecessor journal Open Letter to the University of Technology, Sydney in 1997, and giving it a new name and life as Literacy and Numeracy Studies: An international journal in the education and training of adults. Rosie brought to the Journal her strong commitment to developing a research informed field of adult literacy and numeracy in Australia, and her own strong research and policy engagement in the field. Even after her retirement from the University, Rosie continued her active involvement in the Journal. On behalf of the editorial group, I wish to express our deepest thanks to Rosie for her tireless work with the Journal
